How about a FOG YouTube channel?

I think a video competition would be an excellent idea. I'd be tempted to partake in it.

It doesn't take much thesedays - even my old, old digital point-n-shoot camera records video at You-Tube resolutions. The quality isn't great, but the videos should be judged on content rather than picture quality. And I'm sure there's lots of free editing software available online.

Oh, and Frank - you're so wrong about cruise control!!! But then again, you guys probably don't have average-speed cameras to worry about...  [eek]

I think that my still camera (a Nikon D40X) but (assuming that it does) I considered it to be a frill that I never used (much like the never used Cruise Control on my car).

Sorry Frank but I checked the specs of your camera on the most renown camera review site on the web, but it doesn't have the ability to record movie clips.

iphone's now shoot pretty good video as well.

I could finally put my 600 dollar sony hard drive camcorder to use.

I do like to woodwork in the buff, is that going to be an issue? [big grin]

New idea, Festool should doll up some flip's for us and just give them out as a good gesture. [cool]
Then there would be a bunch of video's.

To be honest, Brice, before the topic presented itself last night this wasn't even a consideration for a contest.  I personally think that members would be best served by how-tos, tips and tool reviews in a video format.  And, in my experience, I would say that folks are far more interested in the content than the quality of the video, the editing, the titling, and other bells and whistles.  People just want to consume information that's educational and answers questions, no matter how unrefined.

I'll give this some additional thought.  Unless we have a fair number of members who have the capability to record video, it wouldn't make for a good contest in my opinion.  On the other hand, I think it's a great opportunity for us as members of the forum to share our knowledge in a way that transcends the various skill levels, cultures and language barriers that exist here.

I would like to continue to get some feedback on this idea.  Thanks for everyone's enthusiasm.

Shane, you could be right about a small number of members willing and able to enter a video contest. If this idea gains some traction maybe a small scale contest would help jump start the Festool Youtube channel.

Now that could be a contest winner...especially if you keep on the festool cap!  [eek]

Wow,

The place to see videos is open as so many requested.  We have less than 20 members there.  Shocking.  Why not become a member there.  You don't need to post a video to become a member.  Foggers unite!  Sign up!

You need to sign up if you want to post videos yourself.

Signing up sure is a pita, I haven't been able yet to do so because I don't have a mobile phone.

FWIW I don't have a mobile phone either and had no problem signing up.

Do you have Google ID? That will do as your YouTube Sign in.

No I don't. I never had any reason yet to sign up for any of Google's services. Anyway, I registered with YouTube but at the end of the registration they asked my mobile phone number so they could text the confirmation code to me. They said it was to check from which country I was. There was also an option to email them if you didn't have mobile phone, so I did that but haven't gotten an answer yet.

I signed in with my google ID and then it wanted me to pick another ID and password and register with more personal info.  I didn't continue.

To answer the questions:

You do not need to join to view only to post.  I believe that by joining you can see a history of videos that you have watched and they will make suggestions about similar.  You can turn that off or suspend it.

I was trying to spur the numbers of users.  With 7600+ members here and the long spoken desire to have videos - just thought it might be a good idea.

I tried out the sign up process.  Here is what I had to do.  Mine was a little more involved than your will be because I already had a google account and a you tube account.

I had to create a new email address with my provider - You won't have to.

I then went and set up a new user at YouTube.com.  I typed in a name.  It was already taken.  I chose an alternate.  I selected a password.  Re-entered it.  Typed the security word.  Selected my gender - I could have lied.  I selected my country - Don't lie - might be tied into ISP addresses.  I selected my birthdate - I could have lied.

It then told me that I was logged in already on my google account and that I needed to log out - You won't have to.

I did that and finished.

They then sent a confirmation email to the email I supplied and I clicked the link.

Done.

That process for me wasn't that more difficult than most.

Peter

Except that I had to enter a mobile phone number to receive the confirmation code instead of just simply mailing it to my email address. Apparently they have a different set of rules for non-US users.

Even if I had a mobile phone I wouldn't give it to some website. That crosses a line with me.

Festooltv rocks!!  Thanks Alex, Peter, Brice, and Shane!

Already learned a thing or two about my new Kapex and still on my first cup of coffee!

Maybe I'll get a video camera and post some "even this idiot can make furniture with Festool" videos....

It must be dependant on the country you are in. I am in Japan and had an e-mail confirmation code.

Anyone know why some of the Festool videos state "The Video Is Unavailable?" They show down the right hand side where all the videos are displayed, but they won't play.  I can't access Festool MFS or the 2 about installing a multi-point lock.  I didn't check them all but I'm sure there are more.

Same problem here.
