I am in the middle of my latest project building an end table.  This video shows how I taper the legs without using a jig.  Sorry - the only Festool you will see in this video are the Domino mortises.

Tapering legs without a jig

Steve, I had done a couple of projects with tapered legs way back when i had my tablesaw.  Those were easy.
Since I got my ATF 55/MFT's, i have been using shims to set up with those toys.  also, have cut them on bandsaw.
The bandsaw has been the easier method along with some hand planing.  I like your method as it looks simpler than either method i have been using since table saw days.
i don't have a shaper, but i do have some long upcut spiral bits for the router table (CMS). I have used them with WoodRat for making tapers as well, but that method just spews dust and shavings far and wide.
thanks for the idea.

Nice find, there is a video somewhere on YouTube of another guy doing them, on a jointer. I've being doing them that way on my jointer since I saw it, great method. Jointer seems a little safer to me but I've never tried on my shaper

I have done it on my jointer (850HL with bench frame and fence) but get better repeatability quicker with the methods i mentioned above. Most of my projects are one off's, so i don't get to try a lot of repetitions.  With a bit of practice, I think that method might, in the long run, prove better than the BS and hand plane.

Steve:
Really well done video. I watched it a couple times. After I watched it first time I wondered why the end doesn't tip into the cutter after you pass the end of the "infeed" fence. Figured it out - most of the guiding pressure from your push block is on the "outfeed" side.
What kind of shaper is that?
Thanks again.
Tim

Thanks for the feedback.  I really think the optimum tool for this technique is the jointer primarily because it has a much longer in-feed table than the shaper.  The shaper limits the amount of taper you can get lengthwise due to the shorter in-feed fence.  Nevertheless, I was extremely pleased with the results.

Tim - the shaper is a Minimax T-55
