How many of us are 'Mac people'?

I suppose I'm a Mac person now.  I don't think of myself as one.  I was PC until 2007, but since I'm typing this on my Macbook Pro with my Apple Cinema Display while watching Star Trek Into Darkness on my Apple TV and using my iPad to look up a fix for my Wife's Macbook Pro and my kids are playing games on their iMac, I suppose I have to claim to be a Mac guy...  But if you call me on my iPhone I'll deny it...

[cool]

Bought an iMac in 1999 for our high schooler.  No going back once we saw what it was like.  Then it was iBook, iMac, Macbook Pro, iPods and iPads.  I use a Windows PC every day at work, but at home we've been PC-free since 2000.

Been an Apple guy since '86 and have had to suffice with some windows machines at previous jobs. I have had a lot of the obscure products. (Newton, 20th Anny Mac, first iMac, etc)

When I started my own company, I made sure my employees had a choice. It is BYOD since day one.

I have been using Apple products since around 1987/8. Unfortunately my son has crossed to the 'dark side'.  [eek]
Teenage rebellion, I think!  [mad]

Edit - further thought.

'Senior Management' is a retired University Lecturer. Around  ten years ago, the University surveyed staff regarding their computer preference. Generally speaking a majority of the staff  in creative courses such as some  Arts, and in Visual and Performing Arts and Media and Visual Communication, Literature and Education preferred Macs. Business Studies/Accounting, Law etc preferred PC. Science was mixed.

One could conclude that the creative types prefer Macs. Consequently this creative alignment with Apple might be extrapolated to a majority of FOG members,  don't you think?   [smile]

Two iMacs and 4 iPads in our house. Use iPad for daily note taking etc at work. Run Parallels on iMacs for any MS stuff.  Unfortunately the teenage boys like to having gaming PC's.

I'm a split personality with everyone else in the family fully Mac'ified but for price considerations I'm still sticking with Win7 PC  [blink]

Wife:
MacBook Pro 15", iPad1, iPhone 3GS
dark side: Google Nexus 7 LTE (2013)

Daughter:
iMac 27", iPhone 4S
dark side: Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7"

Mom:
MacBook Pro 15", iPhone 4S

Shared:
MacMini, Apple TV 3
lighter shade of gray: Ubuntu Linux media server on PC HW, FreeBSD firewall

Myself:
iPad 3, iPhone 4S
dark side: Nexus 7 (2013), Video/photo edit PC 6+6HT core i7/32GB RAM/512GB SSD/16TB HDD/Win7 Ultimate
The small Android tablets are explained with the idiotic form factor of the iPad Mini... No-one has large enough hands to hold those with one hand in vertical position when reading a book on the bus/plane...  [doh]
I'd love the new MacPro fully loaded but even at a slightly lower spec than my PC (12TB vs. 16TB) it would cost $7000 and I paid for my PC about $3000... I rather invested the saved $4000 in Festoys and Veritas hand planes  [embarassed]

I've been an Apple user since 1980 !
I actually still have every Apple product I've ever purchased, and they all still work like the day I bought them.
John
ps, I even have some old apple stock that works quite well !!

I suspect creativity may play a role, but FOG members are also willing to buy into a system that performs well together, even at some additional expense...

I would fall in the "science" career, and I cajoled my employer into a Mac in an otherwise PC facility.  I get folks walking by all the time going "How did you do that?"  My answer is often, "your PC could do it, but you need to get them to buy you additional software."  They sulk on down the hall.

I turned to Apple Guy few years ago

Mac
Pro
iPhones
iPads
Apple tv

I tried mac years ago I didn't think it was the way to go at the time mainly because Internet was slow in them times and every type of software I downloaded "legally" was either for PC or DOUBLE the size in Mac version.

All my mates had Pc's so was easy to swap software games etc.

Since apple brought out the new generation Macs and iPhones and iPads they created a system like festool and I then thought now is the right time to buy into Apple.

What I disagree with is price Fixing apple does when FESTOOL have been fined.   Also how Apple ditch their old customers! I have a IPad 1 which is now useless since apple decided not bother with updates etc.

This has seriously made me think twice now if I am willing to buy a new apple product.   The iPad cost me £800 ish at the time I don't believe its that old. Now it just gathers dust.

Apples new products now seems to have little improvements and I think apple is going more towards "fashion" technology than actually improving the technology to make if worth while buying the new products.

So although currently I like apple I'm rapidly seeing the brand in a different light and I will start looking at other options.

I've been an Apple user since 1984, when I got a IIc - I still have it and it still works.  First Mac 1989 - an SE.  Since then countless desktops and laptops.  Now the wife and I are down to:

MacBook Pro (2)
MacBook Air
Mac Power G5
PowerBook G4
iMac G5
iPad Airs (2 - 1 WiFi, one 3G)
iPhones (2 - 1 x iPhone 4, 1 x iPhone 5s)
Time Capsule
Various iPods

I think the integration of the Apple range is just fabulous.  I put an entry in my calendar on my iPhone and a minute later it's on all our devices.  My remaining Windoze friends (most have switched to Apple) all say "You can do that on a PC too".  And I'm sure you can, with additional software and much juggling.

Apple is like Festool - it's a system and it "just works".

Before I bought my first Festool product (a TS55) I used DeWalt, and thought Festool was stupidly expensive.  Now I understand the extra value (ease of use, quality of finish, dust collection...) I wouldn't consider another DeWalt product.  I just resent the money I spent on DeWalt kit which now has little resale value.

I'm also a long term Mac / Apple user, and have been since around 1999.  Started with the Titanium Powerbook G4 which i fell in love with after first seeing it, it was my second ever laptop after an IBM and with the way that thing looked and ultimately perfromed ensured i was in the Apple system for life.

But the unsung hero was also OSX..... i found it to be the easiest most functional operating system and to this day still wonder today how people can use the Windows OS.... it drives me nuts.

Currently:
iMac 27" Mid 2011
Macbook 13"
Macbook Air 11"
iPad mini ( upgraded from iPad 1)
iPhone 5
iPhone 4
iPhone 3
iPhone 1
iPod Video
iPod Nano 3
iPod Nano 4
iPod Original 5gb ( bought this 1 week after original release )
iPod Hifi ( Dock Style Speaker from apple )
2 x Apple TV
1 x Time Capsule

I still recall coming home to Australia after buying the Original iPod (it was released here 1 year later ) and showing people.  I was so impressed i kept saying this thing will change the world..... if only i listened to my own words in some way!

I have a slew of programs for 3d modeling and such that are PC only. I'm trying to decide if i want to partition my macbook pro or buy a lenovo thinkpad

Well, I plan to be, so count me as a 1/2 point if keeping a tally!

I have had an iPod forever.  Bought my wife an iPad for Christmas in 2012.  That changed everything, she fell in love with it, and I started using it instead of my laptop whenever she was not using it. Last April we both switched to the iPhone 5 when TMobile finally started offering iPhones.

As proof of the ease of use, she has her iPhone and iPad linked, started using DropBox to upload her Camera Roll, and became a Facebook user.  I swear I do not even recognize this person anymore ...  :o

When we are ready to get a new PC we will go with a Mac.  I'll keep the old Sony desktop with XP for when we need a PC, and as the home server.

You do realize that you don't have to 'partition' your Mac, right? If you use VMWare you just click on the icon, which launches a script allowing you to install a PC 'partition' which is actually a folder on the Mac. It even gets backed up by Time Machine automatically, and you can dynamically resize the PC 'partition' size if you ever need to.

In tablet years the first gen ipad is pretty old.

Just this week I finally bought a used ipad 4. I'd planned to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition because of it's superior Wacom tech digitizer (want a tablet for drawing). Turns out Samsung is very slow in updating the OS and generally only provides one update per generation.

Another reason is that the best art app (procreate) is only available for ipad.

My understanding is that doing it that way would in like running mac osx and windows at the same time. I often have sketch up, cad, photoshop, illustrator, and a rendering program running at the same time. I want to have as much elbow room as possible.

I started to add up all the Apple products Ive owned since I started with an Apple II. My head started to hurt so bad I had to stop. I quit at about32. [doh]
Now we have
2-27" imacs
Mac Pro
i-phone 4
i-phone 5
2 ipads
I haven't regretted one minute or one dollar spent.

I don't think 3 and half years is that old especially when it cost £800 odd. Apple stop supporting a while ago.

Started with a IIe with a good ole 5 1/4" floppy drive, before that a Tandy with a tape drive. Been through a lot of Macs over the years. Only 2 of which died. The rest all got replaced when upgrading to keep up with software and changing needs.
I do have a PC for accessing construction disks.
I've spent years snickering at PC people whining about glitches, viruses, crashes and all that other stuff I've avoided using a Cadillac instead of a Chevy
