How many of us are 'Mac people'?

Macbook pro running vmware for all my important programs - It works so much better than any pc I have ever had without having to reinstall stuff all the time

I dont have an iphone as they are too small and I hate to be an isheep

I don't think using one of the best phones on the market with undoubtedly the best mobile operating systems makes someone a "sheep"
Like others have said, Apple is like Festool, it all works as part of the system.

I worked for an Apple Retail Store in Texas for about a year, and had just recently switched over to the Mac a few months prior.  I'm a Windows (SQL Server) software developer at my day job, so I have one foot planted on each side of the camp.  Having been a (recovering) Apple evangelist, it's easy to tout one side as being better than the other.  I think that each side of the computing world excels at certain things.  M$ definitely takes enterprise, but Apple has been making some headway in that regard.  I don't think it's fair to compare the two companies any longer because they are so completely different.  One chooses to write incredible software and dabble in hardware for a huge corporate market while the other has opted to write software and design hardware that excels extremely well for its much smaller consumer market (although this is changing for Apple).

That being said, I choose Apple.  I'm not a fanboy.  Solving software problems is what I get paid to do for 8-10 hours per day.  I don't get paid to solve those same problems in my home nor do I want to.  I'd rather have something that is non-fiddly and "just works" 95% of the time.  I've had just about every iPhone available.  I just got my first iPad (Air) which is my primary device, and my wife has an iPhone and a 13" MacBookPro.  Everything is linked up in the house via an Airport Extreme, 2 Airport Express for wirelessly streaming music and audio through the house, and an AppleTV for movies and such.  The amount of time I spend fiddling with maintaining this system is 0 unless I need to change something for whatever reason.  Could I do this with a bunch of other non-Apple products?  Sure.  I'd rather get to the important things in life a lot faster instead of fiddling with a system that wasn't designed to make my life faster, easier, and smarter...

I choose Festool products for the same reason.

I'm not disputing its a good phone but as I said its too small for me for what I use my phone for, I dont use festool exclusively as other makes of certain tools do things festool dont in the same way other makes of phones do things that iphones dont.

But you got to admit iphones - everyone has got one, seems a bit like a silly club

I buy into iPhone for the app community and App Store model ... and the out of the box integration with the rest of my mac gear.

If you don't want to be a sheep, throw your mobile away and go and live in the bush [wink] [big grin] ... if you have a mobile, drive a car and watch TV - you're a sheep!

I have an iPod touch - that is an iPhone that is not a phone.

I have a more dependable cell phone (one with a decent battery life, that is water-resistant and can survive a drop down to a floor from several flights of stairs above - which I have unintentionally tested) for when I want to make phone calls.  I figure that in an emergency I'd rather have something I'm more certain will work than something relatively fragile.

I am a member of a few more-expensive-and-limited-but-usually-works-better-than-anything-else clubs.

iOS stuff, Mac, Snap-On, Festool...  [2cents] [2cents] [2cents]

I think in general most phones work but iphone users tend to tell people that there phone just works as if its a big surprise

I can confirm mine just works and its not an iphone and i tend to do a lot more with mine than most of the iphone users i know who forever go on about all their phone can do

If my phone did not "just work" I may be swayed but i like to be able to use the keyboard of my choice add widgets of my choice and see things like what apps are using my battery power, I like to have a screen size that suits my poor vision when looking at plans, I like to be able to use my phone as a portable hard drive to transfer files, I like to be able to block calls from certain numbers to avoid being disturbed by salesmen all day, and I like to have my phone set up the way I want not the way apple want me to have it.

Thats my choice and I respect yours, price does not come into it, I just think its laughable how many people jump on the band wagon and never use any of the features that even the most basic smart phone has let alone a high end iphone.

Agreed - and it will be in IOS 8 this fall.

Also agreed. I see a lot of this, and just don't understand it. I don't care if my phone is 'cool' - I just want it to do what I want...

...and I *love* Siri! (not literally)

I am really liking ios 8 (even in this early beta). I also really like the changes in Yosemite so far but the the real ship is with the Continuity. With both OS' at beta 1, a lot of the functionality is there and is impressive!

On another note, it is sad that this much of my battery is use up by Tapatalk!  Snowboarding season is over so this is the only forum I frequent on this beta device!!

Been using apple products for about 14 years now.

Love having my iPhone, iPad and iMac all linked up running smoothly for work.

Holding people in contempt and making trivial generalizations is definitely not  "respecting others' choices".  Perhaps someone will make an app or widget to help those who need to make logical, well reasoned arguments.

It is not the phone that "just works"... just like Festool, it is all about the ecosystem.  If you only have an iPhone, or Android or Windows phone or {insert other here}, then it really doesn't matter what you have in your hand to make a call, browse the web or load up your apps...it is what feels good to you at that point.  But if you have Macs, MacBooks, iMacs, iPads, Apple TV, Newtons  [wink] and other Apple devices, then the system is what makes it "just work".

... but i like to be able to use the keyboard of my choice...

I think it really all boils down to this argument right here.  Some people are adverse to direction and will naturally want the opposite of others and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.  In fact, I am very much that way.  The term "draconian" has been used to describe Apple throughout history, and you know what, I have never found it to be a degrading term  In fact, it is what makes the Apple ecosystem and products "just work".  I agree, that a bit more flexibility within iOS would be nice at times, but not if it makes my phone less stable or prone to confusion.  I live by my iPhone.  I am on it ALL day.  I need a solid phone, but I also need to communicate with my customers and the rest of the world and I don't want to fidget with that aspect of my life.

Thats my choice and I respect yours, price does not come into it, I just think its laughable how many people jump on the band wagon and never use any of the features that even the most basic smart phone has let alone a high end iPhone.

Please don't take the above areas as a battle or putting you down for anything, I just wanted to voice MY opinion.  It comes with years of experience in the tech world, both as a consumer and producer.  I run a small company that has been entrenched in tech from day zero.  I have worked for and with Apple for years.  I also work with many fortune 500, global 100 customers and we see Apple and non-Apple devices everywhere we look.  Competition has ALWAYS driven evolution... and it always should.  It is what makes the world we live in a (mostly) better place.

Frank, I agree with three on your list. Festool, naturally, Apple, is there anything else? and 'hick'!  [smile]

I know Apple keep new releases very secret but i am going to get a new Mac Mini & it seems very likely an updated version might be coming soon.  Any thoughts about when ?
