How many of us are 'Mac people'?

try the "buyer's guide" tab at macrumors.com.  it is one of several sites that deals deals extensively in this type of info.

My son-in-law works in new product development at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, so I'm pretty much obligated to have a bunch of Apple stuff around the house. I do use them for certain things, and they work just fine.

However I'm most comfortable working on a PC, probably because I have been since the early 80s. Of course there have been some bumps and bruises over the years, but over all the PC has served me well. Computer problems don't bother me much, it has always been through sorting out problems that I have learned the most.

My wife loves her iPhone 5, but I'm happy with my old Motorola, which is only "smart" enough to receive calls and keep my calendar. I can't stand to browse the Internet with a screen not much bigger than a postage stamp. I spend hours browsing on my "powerhouse" PC with two 27" screens and two 24" screens. I like big screens and to have several of them going at the same time.

When I'm out and about I'm completely Internet free. I like to interact with the people around me, that is if I can find anyone willing to put down their smartphone for a minute.  [smile]

Thanks teocaf, as i thought.  Don't buy.  There are rumours that they won't bring out a new Mac Mini, hope thats not the case !

imac, MacBook Pro, iPad retina, iPod touch and ipod Classic. iPhone when they bring out one with a decent size screen, Using Samsung Galaxy Note 3 at the moment which is a great phone especially with the stylus. So come on Apple pull your finger out.

Agree that Apple is WAY behind and totally missed the boat on screen size. Waiting for the iPhone 6 to see if they fix that?

Also how Apple ditch their old customers! I have a IPad 1 which is now useless since apple decided not bother with updates etc.

I have an old original iPad that is stuck on iOS 5, and will be there forever.  But I'm OK with that.  I'd rather have an old piece of hardware running old software well than having an old piece of hardware running new software poorly.

iOS 6 and iOS 7 have thousands of new features under the hood that require serious horsepower, and the original iPad can't handle it.  It would be unbearably slow and have 20 minutes of battery life.

Jailbreak it. It will be like a new device.

I started with a Mac at work and then got a Dell Windows 95 PC for home (because of cost), I just abandoned my Dell XP and bought a new IMac, also bought an IMac for the wife and got a IPad Air and I'm happy I finally got home to Apple!

iOS is too limiting for me, I'm an Android guy.

I do have a Macbook Pro and have had it for more than 5 years now, but it's beginning to show it's age. I've had an SSD in it for the last three years, which has extended it's useful life for sure, but WiFi is getting bad for some reason? Seems pretty common if you search on the Apple forums. Overall it runs hot, battery life is average, I think it's time for me to upgrade.

I think I'll pickup a Surface Pro in a year when the MBP is really on it's last legs. The MBP has been relegated to surfing duties anyways, my line of work is in data analysis and Excel for Mac is absolutely awful, Numbers is even buggier and has zero functionality. Instead of working in a remote terminal system, I'd rather have the versatility to do VPN and actually have everything at my fingertips instead of running some virtualized Excel thing.

I get that there's a good ecosystem if you buy into it, I just have requirements that fall outside the common use case that isn't met well in their world. Same goes for tools I guess, but there's much more standardized use cases in cutting wood. [tongue]

I am the same - don't like iOS but have a macbook
The surface pro looks good but win 8.1 is a nightmare, thats the reason i bought a macbook
I run vmware fusion  to run windows programs and it works seamless

I have Win 8.1 on my HTPC, it is a chore to use. However given that all the complaints mostly are due to trying to emulate a tablet interface without touch capability, having the touch ability should resolve most of that.

I haven't used VMware but I do have an install of Windows 7 in a Bootcamp partition. It works but it runs hot and battery life takes a toll.

We'll see how the market pans out in the next few months. I'm not opposed to buying another Mac, but the Surface might plug the gap of on-the-go content consumption that the laptop form factor isn't particularly suited for.

Let's keep to the spirit of the thread, please? From my first post:

"No need to post and start a debate if you're not - that's not what this post is about. Just 'chime' in (get it, Mac guys?) and let us know if you are?!"

I switched over about 18 months ago when I bought my wife a MacBook Air.  We discovered she couldn't use it for work related stuff due to several proprietary software programs based on Windows software.  As she isn't computer savy, she didn't want a dual boot system and asked for a Windows based laptop. So......we bought her another laptop, and I took the MacBook Air back to the Apple store and exchanged it for a MacBook Pro with retina display.  [laughing]

I'm still learning the OS mainly because I just haven't taken the time to delve into it.  Hardware is totally awesome and trouble free.

The rest of the family all uses PC's, and we all have iPhones and iPads.  Any issues we've ever had with the phones or tablets, the Apple store has been the big difference and the employees have gone out of their way to offer free replacements.  That alone has made me an Apple "fan boy" for life........

Where's the debate? All I've seen in this thread are some well stated opinions about a variety of products. It has actually turned out to be more interesting than I expected.

If the "spirit" of this thread was nothing more than for the Apple guys to pat each other on the back for being so smart, you should have said so in the beginning. [smile]

I started buy apple products and couple of years ago. I have a Mac mini, and very pleased with it for what I needed, mainly a media player.
I got fed up with reinstalling Windows when things went wrong, but I still have a Windows computer in the office.
I like the way apple intergrate there products, I have an Ipad 2 and iPhone 4s.
Just recently my Mac mini kept freezing and crashing, so I thought I'd reinstall the Maverick OS. Well it took me all weekend to sort it out, apple servers are extremely slow at downloading the OS to get it up and running. I eventually did it by installing to an external drive and then installing the Mac mini hard drive from that. With update and software to reinstall it took awhile.

Yep, and they're nothing more than appliances (I don't mean women  [smile] ).

I can understand wanting feedback when considering a purchase, but other than that, I personally don't see much point in talking about our TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, OR computers.  [wink]

Do you ever think technology was supposed to save us time and money ( for those of us over a certain age)
but it takes up a lot more.
The internet is supposed to make it easy to find things but it takes forever to filter through all the junk

Oh for the simpler times!
