When I left school in the early to mid eighties in the UK, it was a traditional 3 year apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery with a city and guilds qualification at the end of the three years I believe it was run by the CITB, Construction industry training board.
It Consisted of Six months of college work and then two and a half years of site work with day release each week back to college, exams at the end of the three years with certificates.
