Does it depend on the size of the pictures ? I have real trouble attaching pictures to posts [crying]
I just tried to attach a large picture of 2593 x 1944 pixels and 919 KB, but it didn't work. I myself use pictures of 800 x 600 when I post them here, and with a file size around 125 - 150 kb and that works great.
When talking about an ideal size for pictures, you got think of two things: first what the maximum size is the forum software will handle properly, and second, how it will look on people's monitors. Regarding the software, it's obvious it can't handle the size of the picture I just tried, but as I've seen a really big picture of a Kapex here, posted by Rick Christopherson some time ago, I think you should be able to use pictures of at least 1280 width and maybe bigger, but not much bigger.
But it's another story how it's gonna look on other people's computers, because people use lots of different types of monitors with different size. Many people have widescreen monitors these days (16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio) and they can handle pretty wide pictures without the need to scroll. Other people, like me for instance still have old monitors with a 4:3 ratio and if a picture is too wide then you will see scroll bars in the browser, and that is a less desired effect.
According to the
w3 organisation, that's the organisation that regulates and monitors the internet, 76% of the people use monitors with a resolution bigger than 1024 x 768. So if you want people to look at your pictures comfortably, you can use pictures of at least 800 pixels wide. This size will also look good for people who have bigger monitors. But if you make them wider than 800 some people will have to start scrolling from left to right to see it entirely, and that is very annoying. And the wider you make them, the more people will have to start scrolling.
