How much do you use your Multi-master?

It's the only power tool I'd buy a systainer insert for, which is the same thing said different. Hey, if any of you Euro-spenders over there see one, I'm on the lookout for it.

Check how it fits in a Deltex insert.  That might be available from Festool Australia.

Or try it with a Sortainer/4.  Tool in the big drawer, cutters and such in the little ones.

Ned

The new Fein cases are pretty bitchin', so I'll keep it in that unless I get the exact insert. I've got a sort 4, but it's full ;D

I found the dust collection on the new version to be pretty good, even though I didn't use the perf pad at first (DOH!)

some people here in Sweden

Time to move to Sweden, cheep saw blades and pretty girls. I checked the Bosch USA web page, Not Available In North America :'(

Mike: what more could you possibly ask for?  ;D

...but the climate this time of the year makes you wish you could tie a rope around the entire country and tow it down south. Way south... :-\

I have been making my own blades for the Multi Master for a while now after reading a thread on the topic on the JLC forums.  I buy a backsaw from one of the big box stores and cut it into sections with a grinder and drill 3/8" holes in them on the drill press.  One can make half a dozen blades in about 30 min.  The tooth configuration is different from the E-Cut blades but they are great for situations where you might hit a nail when frying a $30, brand new blade hurts.

I install a lot of windows and find the scraper blade to be outstanding for cutting the caulk on the old brick moulding.  It saves me 20 min. per window at least depending on its size.  I used it the other day on a pre finished post-to-post balcony rail to notch the wood below the 3/8" hole for a rail bolt.  The rail dropped onto the rail bolts rather than being lagged through the posts and the fillets covered the notches.  The GC was thrilled that no no refinishing was required.

I have yet to try it myself, but on a job site a while back I watched a carpenter cut the outside corner on Flex mold crown in position on the wall using a Multi Master and a guide block tacked to the wall at the correct spring angle and miter.  I bought the tool the next day and have found a million uses for it since.

Brief backstory:

I have done plenty of framing and sheetrock when I was young, but never made a piece of furnature.  I have been purchasing high quality tools over time (handmade Japanese Chisels, Festools, Fein Multimaster) with the intent that, some day, I would make a piece of furnature.  I have the walnut and quilted maple to make a dining table.  Some day.  Some day.

Recently:

It seem that, between work, and my volunteering for Scouts, I just don't have much free time.  Then, just when I think I have some time to perhaps at least start, I get a phone call; "Bill? yeah, I found some dryrot in my window sill. Can ya help me out?", and there goes any free time.

Relevant to this Thread:

The Fein Multimaster with the Finger Rasp (not the triangle rasp) is exceptional at removing the rotted spongy stuff much faster than anything else I have seen, and their dust extractor tube (extra) fits the tool connector of the CT-22 hose.

Currently:

Neighbors of my friend that owns the "dryrot house" have noticed me using the CT-22, Linear Sander, Multimaster, and that every time I work on it, I have left the yard in pristine condition.  Thus, more phone calls asking "Bill? yeah, I have some dryrot too.  Can ya help me out?", and the dining table gets pushed further out.

Some day.  Some day.

Believe me, way south is just as weird. Two days ago I was in flip flops shorts and a cutoff tee. Yesterday when I went to the Timber and Working with Wood show ( ;D yes, I'm poorer) in town, I wore a sweater, jeans, and a raincoat. It hailed yesterday!

Could have used a MultiMaster today taking old lino tiles off a set of stairs in my rental suite.

Tried the rotex at various speeds using 36 grit rubin and the paper just gummed up.

In the end I pull the stair treads and flipped them.  ;D Nobody will ever know and if all works out the tenant suite will be demolished in a couple of years anyhow and replaced with my new shop!!!!

Dan,

If you have a Festool LS 130, you can use it with its optional scraper blade to remove old flooring that is adhered to the substrate.

But - there is now a Fein MM - from Bosch! The new multisaw/sander from Bosch is compatible with the old MM mount (round, and can of course be used on the new MM and the Supercut!)...

Hi Pingvinlakrits,

I'm a bit confused by your what I hope is good news... I've got one of the new MM's with the star mount and quick release. Will the Bosch blades with their 10mm round openings fit the the new star mount?

...and some people here in Sweden have already trimmed the mount to fit the "star" mount.

Or is it necessary to "modify" the opening on the Bosch blades?

I've done some web searches but other than finding ads offering Bosch blades which will fit old style MM's I can't find any clarification on this question and would appreciate any advice you have to offer!

Thanks!

Just bought a Fein MultiMaster Top Plus kit at Woodcraft yesterday. Woodcraft carries "imperial" blades to fit Multimasters, have not tried them yet, has anyone else? Fein is handing out $50 rebate coupons with MultiMasters and apparently dealers are matching that with a $25 coupon of their own as both WoodCraft and Rockler seem to be offering the same deal.

If you scratch the orange finish of your Multimaster I swear you will almost see black and green and the faint outline of Fes.... ;)

Apart from the Leigh D4 jig, it is the only tool in my shed that I speak of in the same breath as Festool.

Quality with a Capital Q.

LOL.. what a great statement.. i'm sure the guys at Festool are honored by such comments..
But if you look on the map, how close they all (Festool, Fein, Mafell, Bosch, Kress, Metabo) stuck together, you could think of the term "swabian tool gang" [big grin]
I'm sure, they all work together on basic technology developement and quality improvement.

kind regards, Mike

p.s. But to stay on topic.. just swapped my Multimaster out for the new model with the quick release handle.. i'm using it mostly for strange jobs, like cutting door frames for flooring, or dry wall outlets..
Use it not that much, but would'nt sell it though.. occasionally i'm using it for Sanding as welll, but since i'm aiming for the RO90,  this would be a better device for those tasks.
