For the past couple of weeks I have been building a fence out of pressure treated SYP.  I have made several hundred cuts with my Kapex and it seems that all of the wet wood has gummed up inside my blade guard.  The laser lights are just barely visible.  What is the recommended procedure for keeping the blade guard clean when cutting this type of wood so that the laser is effective?

If you get a lot of build up inside the guard I use compressed air and a skewer (bamboo, etc. as used for kabobs) to scrape and loosen the debris.  Don't forget to take out the laser shield and clean (as seen on page 28 of Ricks supplemental manual) is as well.

A couple weeks ago i finished a big job i had been working late in the evenings on to get it done in time, when they picked it up i absolutely didn't feel like starting the next job right away. So i took my Kapex apart and cleaned/lubricated it. I took out the blade and polished it, took out the laser lens and cleaned it and also took out the clear plastic blade guard and soaked it with turpentine then cleaned it with paper towels that i pushed in and out with a small stick then sprayed it with silicone. I also frequently cut pressure threated pine with that is still soaked and it gets green goo all over the guard insides.

After that my Kapex felt like it was brand new, shiny blade, totally transparent guard, bright and sharp laser lines, smooth up and down action, no need to pull it up after a cut, i actually need to guide it back up gently because otherwise it flies back up in position.

So to clean the guard i recommend you to take it out, but make sure you remember how to put it back in, theres a few small parts and a spring that can get tricky to put back in, but generally it was easy.
