Wednesday, I glued up a 16x20 curly maple picture frame and I'm almost happy with the result.  Glue residue under a finish is bad, but I recall somebody filling problem joints with glue, sanding over them to deposit sawdust, and winding up with something that looked better (at least before the finish).

How to proceed? The frame pieces are ~3" wide and coplanar.

If glue and sandpaper are the way to go, what glue? what abrasive/grit?  Dust collection off? I have an RO 90, Rotex 150, ETS 150/3.

Thanks in advance!

Is the gap on the face or the mitred corner. If it's on the mitre, then William Ng posted a terrific video on youtube showing a trick to close a mitre. He uses a screwdriver with glue to burnish the edges together. I have used this trick to great effect. If it's on the face, then depending on the size of the gap I would either use a wedge for large gaps, tap it in and saw the excess off, or for small gaps, mix some epoxy with sawdust and dribble it in the gap.

You generally don't need to sand the frame itself, just sand a piece of scrap to create the same colour dust.
