How can you recognize if a FESTOOL tool is refurbished or not?

Thank you,

Meezo

You can't, really. It looks just like any other.

Maybe if you have the serial number Festool can give you the information, but I don't know if they will do that.

On the ones I have purchased during recon sales, there is a sticker on the outside of the Systainer noting the tool was reconditioned. I am sure that sticker comes right off, and no notation on the tool itself that I recall. I agree, maybe send the serial #to Festool and ask them.

When you register it it should come up as a reconditioned tool. I bought several this past year and entered them in for warranty (still no hat thank you) and they are saved as Reconditioned tools with a date that the warranty is good till! Hope that helps! Chris

Used or refurb, what's the difference?

To me:

Refurb - factory reconditioned to make sure the tool is within specs set by the factory

Used: Bought from an individual, who knows how they used it, kept it, maintained it etc

I guess you could argue that refurb tools are indeed used, or at least for the most part they would have had some use. But when the factory trained techs make sure it operates correctly, I see more value.

If my memory serves me correctly Shane wrote that the majority of the refurb tools sold by Festool had been returned during the 30 day window.

Does this mean we should always ENCOURAGE first-posters to return their 'problem' tools within the 30-day window - especially if we think it's something we might want?

Interesting strategy, but also remember all the grief that Festool got for this sale - warranted or not.  It also takes a long time for them to accumulate enough tools to justify the efforts of putting these sales on.
