How to purchase used Festools?

I'm checking out a used domino tomorrow, I was wondering if anyone could point out anything I should specifically look for.

I'm not very familiar with it....watched tons of videos, but no hands on experience.

Is there anything that typically breaks or goes out of alignment etc?

I would check to see if any of the plastic parts are cracked. I dropped my TS55 on the floor recently and a part cracked and needed replacing afterwards. I would imagine this is a fairly common occurrence.

As for the domino specifically, I would make a few test mortises on the various width settings, and then stick a domino in them and see if they are snug.

It's a pretty robust machine with few exposed parts, so the likelihood is that you'll be ok. Try to ascertain how old the tool is as the 3-year warranty is transferable.

Richard.

Thanks,
was told the vacuum hose attachment was cracked ("fixed" with tape)...doesn't sound like  a dealbreaker. (not a replaceable part is it?)

The vac hose is replaceable  the part numbers for the whole replacement are
465203 Intake flange
465204 Extractor tube
467692 Suction holder
Depending on whats needs to be replaced Festool service can help you get the parts

You DROPPED your Domino TS55?  [scared] [eek] [scared] Sacrilege!!!

That's worse that dropping your first born on his head.

It was my TS55, but upsetting all the same. Actually, what happened was that I swung the boom arm around to use the 27mm hose with a sander, forgetting that the TS55 was attached to the 36mm hose (I have both hoses on the boom arm). It didn't fall far, but the bevel lock on one side cracked. Anyway, it was fixed and returned in three days!

Its easy to overtighten the handles that set the angle and height of the fence,  try resetting those and if its hard to get a solid set, its a problem, but not a big one.  Festool can send you the part and talk you through the simple repair.  The other thing that goes out of alignment is the cutter not centering on the centerline etched into the sole of the domino.  Happened to me and to a couple of others that I know.  That can be compensated for by adjusting the cursor on the plastic shield to match the center of wherever its cutting now - again, not a dealbreaker.

Oh, also check the cutters for dings and chips.  They run about $30 each.

I had a TS75 kick out of my hand - nothing I could do to stop it.    My fault entirely, as I had misplaced it on the guide rail, and was trying to cut the ally parallel fence.    The RS100 sander is also a favourite candidate for dropping, no idea why.  Never dropped the domino.

I was going to say that the only bit that looks flaky on the Domino is the hose connection - I expect it to snap every time I attach the hose.  But you've got that identified already.  I'd familiarise yourself with the noise a "known good" Domino makes - that gearbox looks like the devil's work and would presumably be making strange noises if it was in trouble.

How much horizontal adjustment is possible?

It was definitely significantly off from the guideline, plus I wasnt very impressed with its vertical alignment...though I think that was a combination of using rough stock, and a bit of user error

Things to consider....

Any warranty left?

All cutter sizes present and not defective?

4mm cutter included?

Accessory  stops?

Extra tenons?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The horizontal window cursor is pretty easy to adjust.

Seth

Okay this is cheap shot.... but I think the answer to the subject line.. ???

With Cash? [big grin]

Cheers,
Steve

This is sort of a big deal.  You aren't going to have much control over user error but you have to use properly milled stock or you're just guessing it there is a problem.
