How to Remove Bearing

Hi All,

Noobie question here.  I am using my brand new OF 1400 router to cut a dado in the top of a 3/4 plywood with a Freud 7-bearing Rabbet set and I can't figure out how to remove the bearing in order to replace it with the correct size bearing.  I have applied a fair amount of pressure to the hex key, it won't break free and I am wondering if I am going the wrong way.  Anyone know which direction the bearing bolt goes?  Is it righty-tighty and loosey-goosey?  Or, is it backward?

I have the same rabbet set. With the bearing facing up, turn it anti-clockwise to loosen it. It can be a little stiff sometimes, but you will loosen it before the hex key breaks.

How are you going to cut a dado with a bearing though? Is it a rabbet cut?

As Richard indicated, the little screw can be very tight, especially when new.  Also, if you are cutting a dado, groove through the middle of a workpiece, you would not want to use a rabbeting bit -- I would use a straight cutter for this type of cut.  If you just want to cut a wider rabbet along the edge of a workpiece, then the rabbeting bit with the right bearing will work great.

You were right, I didn't break the hex key!  The bock finally loosened and I was able to change the bearing.

FYI, I was making a rabbet cut at the end (top) of a side of a cabinet.  I decided to make the first cur with the TS75 for teh starting line, and then took the rest off with a up-cut spiral bit using the track to hold the router in position.  It worked great.

I am still learning how to use these festools, but once I figure something out, the genius of the sustem floors me.
