How to stamp finished woodworking

I just ordered a branding iron to imprint Logo onto finished projects, but also wanted to incorporate a date stamp.

Any ideas of how to accomplish this? Rubber ink stamp will eventually wear off. If I use a steel stamp that I hammer the die into the wood, I am not sure that it will show clearly??

Couldn't you just sign and date with a Sharpie or similar permanent marker next to your stamp.

Because of the interplay of light and shadow, steel punch stamping generally shows up pretty clearly, especially once a finish is applied.

By coincidence, I just stamped the angle gauge blocks on my sharpening box, so you can take a look and see.  My set doesn't have numbers, so I had to go with roman numerals:

Date stamps can be applied with punches. But they are hard to place correctly (although that has its charms). You could use a pantograph system — they produce reliable results (even though they are from the realm of metalworking).

Use the punches, rub generous amount of shoe polish into the dents, wipe off excess.

I like this idea, and I already have a set of stamps, so good to go.
Maybe finish with a coat of shellac or lacquer to seal it in.

L.V. provide a ruler with their punches

Thank you everyone for the great replies. If I went with the branding iron ones it would be a couple of hundred $.
I have decided to take Mario’s advice and order from LV
Thanks all !!

Received the Branding iron from Infinity, and it works fine. I purchased the steel stamp set for the date, and after filling in the indentations made by the dies with black shoe polish (as recommended here) It is both legible and should last a lifetime.
Thanks to all!
