How would you hang this?

I have to build a frame for a flat screen tv.  The customer wants to use crown moulding as the framing material.  The traditional top portion of the crown will be against the wall.  I could just screw it into the wall but the customer does not want any visible fasteners.  I thought about using a french cleat but he wants the frame to fit pretty snug around the tv so I'm not sure would be able to drop the frame onto the cleat with the tv there.  Addtionally, it needs to be removeable in case maintenance/repair work is needed.  Any thoughts?

I replied on the other site you asked the question on, but I would glue earth magnets where they are flush with each mating surface.

Robert, are there magnets that are strong enough for this application?  The frame will be pretty sizeable - about 3-4' high and 4-5' across, not considering that the crown I'll be using is 6".  Are you suggesting some type of ledge that the frame sits on and is held in place by magnets or are you saying that I should embed the magnets in the wall?

I've built a few frames around tv's and stereo stuff. I've always built the frame as a whole unit, glued, nailed, etc., sized to fit around the tv. On one I used a cleat at the top for the frame to hang on but that ended up being a pain in the ass. Due to the tight fit getting the frame hooked on was a problem. On the other ones I just used hooks and catches screwed to the wall and back of the frame. Once I had them a lined up nice it worked great.

To modify both Robert's and Holzhacker's thoughts a bit, I too would build the frame as a unit, place a cleat on the wall to position the frame and carry most of the weight, but would use Velcro to secure the frame to the wall.

Hook and loop tape is surprisingly strong, and  less expensive that earth magnets.  Probably a bit easier to work with as well.  I don't think I would rely on just the adhesive backing on the tape though, perhaps add a few staples for extra long term holding power.

I like Dan's idea, except I would use magnets. The magnets I have would be more that strong enought to hold that weight. You can't pull them apart once they are together, you have to slide them then pull them apart with just about all the strenght you have.

I would make some metal frame to fit on the wall, hang the TV in it, with screws, attach the two sides of the wooden frame to the metal and then attach the top and bottom side of the frame to the sides with some magnets

Personally, I would never use velcro. Those magnets might be an idea, I know there are some extremely strong magnets around. But to be honest, I would never mount a $1500+ device without it being a 100% fail safe over many years. That means NO loose connections, no matter how strong they are on paper.

Just to clarify, the tv is already mounted on the wall, I'm just building a frame to surround it.  I think I have a pretty good idea of what I'll do at this point after thinking about some of these suggestions.  I'm not sure what I'll do about ventilation yet.  I'll have to talk to the customer first about those concerns and see what he'd like to do.

Strong earth magnets may interfere with electronic devices.
I would not install them too close to a brand new TV.

I would double check first, but I didn't think they affected LCD, or Plasma. Of coarse the older televisions it would.

Try Z clips, they work well for this application, also bull dogs may work as well.  You may need to be creative on how to hide them, but they will hold
