In Texas, being buffaloed means having no idea as how to proceed.

My sister-in-law asked me to build sliding barn doors across what was supposed to have been a desk alcove. The doors would have to cover a 96” span and be 60” high. At each upper corner on the alcove is a complex crown molding that wraps around the ceiling.

My guess is that there would have to be 3 separate doors of 32” each with a track.

I have no clue as how to make the doors accommodate the crown moldings and I can’t find any three-way barn door hardware.

I’m buffaloed!

Do all the doors have to open to only one side, left or right?

Is 32" enough if you have a 96" opening to cover then 32" doors will not have any overlap hence possible gaps between the doors.

You said a 60" height so I am guessing these do not extend to the floor. Is the bottom of these doors at 30" then up 60" to the top of the doors. That leaves only 6 inches for hardware with a 96" ceiling.

I would modify the crown by creating an opening  in the bottom, essentially a wide slot and hide the ugly (in my opinion) door track behind the crown.

Correct on door width having to be wider.

Left door slides right. Right door slides left. Center door slides either way.

Doors go from ceiling down to end just above desk height.

No dice from SIL in cutting a slot in the crown molding.

SIL wants center of each door to be Korean rice paper.

I think I will run like a scared cat.

So the doors won't conceal the desk ?  Why?

Does the desk basically make a desk high wall?

Is the alcove enterable or do you sit in the space that would be on the out side of the alcove?

A picture of the space and desk would be pretty helpful on this one.

Another option would be bifold barn door hardware like this. Hide the rail behind a valance and run the crown around it.

We are both retired guys doing this for fun.
When friends ask me to build things first question to myself is if I will find the project enjoyable or interesting.
It's nice to help people out but....

just 2-cents
