Here's another potential solution. After cutting apart the cabinet into two sections, you could have used your router with a slotting bit to cut a continuous slot to accept a spline or biscuits, then rejoined the sections with glue and a couple of band (strap) clamps on site.

I watched the video. Everything makes sense except how do you quickly machine the recess of the contour shown? Is that done with a small radius spiral or straight fluted router bit and a template?
