Here's another potential solution.  After cutting apart the cabinet into two sections, you could have used your router with a slotting bit to cut a continuous slot to accept a spline or biscuits, then rejoined the sections with glue and a couple of band (strap) clamps on site.

I watched the video.  Everything makes sense except how do you quickly machine the recess of the contour shown?  Is that done with a small radius spiral or straight fluted router bit and a template?

I've not seen a zipbolt that shape before - here in the UK zipbolts are available, and used for joining worktops (countertops). They fit in a 35mm diameter recess. This video is closer to the ones I've used over here:

Zip bolt's little tag line there is awfully similar to our beloved green's...

The first picture of them shown, with the squared shoulders has a caption "Counter top connectors".  Probably used with granite and what-not.
I've seen connector holes like that when using bolts and square nuts.
 
Yes, the ones I have seen had rounded end fittings, as Jonny Round Boy stated.  On further thought, anyone with a Domino machine can easily and quickly make the needed mortices for the "flat nut" version of the clamp.
