I had the option to buy tools without the Systainers.
I'm 'way past hauling tools to jobsites(I haul my plans, some nails and my not-insubstantial a** , maybe a few 2x4s at the most), use my tools in my shop and have plenty of organization already in place. So the Sys boxes wind up just absorbing space I have better use for.
Sure I can sell them, but what will I get for them and how much time will I have to spend in the process?
So I'd really prefer the option not to buy them in the first place. I wouldn't expect a full retail discount but anything would be better than having to find a place to store them, dealing with Craigslist ads, or feeling bad about putting them on the curb on Friday(putting them on the curb doesn't exactly strike me as being "Green").
Consider: The LR32 system, #583291 at $425.00: The 583290 hole drilling set, the clamps, and the bits all total $364. So it would cost me $61.00 for a SYS 1 and the plastic inserts which I don't need. In this case I had the option to buy the 583290 and the bits (since I already have clamps) for close to $100 less and still get everything I needed to use the 32mm system(which rocks!). So I bought an extra 5mm bit and a couple of quick clamps. Festool ended up with a little more of my money and I ended up with more tools that I could actually put to use. What you'd call a win-win situation.
But how much of what I paid for the OF 1400, the TS 55 or the OF1010 could I have saved to spend on accessories if I hadn't had to pay for the Sys 2 or 3 cases? Festool got my money, I got plastic boxes that are valueless to me and will cost me time and effort to dispose of. I'd call that a win-lose situation with me on the dirty end of the stick....
I'm sure this has been hammered to death in the forum and I'm spitting into the wind, but this particular discussion is called the "Festool Wish List" so here's mine...
Best,
Bill
P.S. Anyone who need an OF 1010, OF 1400 or TS55 Systainer and is willing to meet me on my schedule between the Wade Green exit on I-75 and the Towne Lake exit on 575 is welcome to them. Just get in touch.
