Well with many weeks trying to spray BM paint I think I finally figured it out. Painted and installed some panels in my kitchen project. Now for drawer fronts and doors.

Looks good to me.
So what did you do to make it work?
Tim
Earlex gave me their sprayport 6003 model at no cost due to the problems I was having with the 5500. Now I have 2 units for the price of one. Thinned the paint 10% with warm water and figured out what distance I needed to be from the surface and what speed to travel at. Also, the paint needed to go on thick, 3.4 wet mils, to get a clean coat. 3 thin passes over the surface and I achieved a good finish.
It took a long time to reach the top of the learning curve. Felt so confident that I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of general finishes expresso stain and High performance top coat. Worked out great. Got a great coat the first time I sprayed. SO I did learn something from this exercise.
Cheers,
JC

I am a bit confused. So did you do 3 "thin passes" to achieve 3.4 wet mils in one session or did you spray 3.4 wet mils 3 times?

Interesting, would not have thought to mix espresso stain with HP top coat.
Why did you do this? Just curious.

Just a comment about the design - I would not be comfortable with a wood sided cabinet that close to gas burners. It just doesn't look safe. Also, there's not much room for pan handles with the sides so closed in. Can you fill me in on the design reasoning?

I'm sure codes vary but I build these fairly often and all that is required around here is 6'' from the edge of the cooktop and around 36'' from the top

JC sprayed 3 very thin layers to build it to a single 3.4 mills coat, he did this 3 times.

I've mixed dyes with finish, don't recall mixing stain with a finish.

Thanks Tom.
I did speak with JC today and he was able to get this through my thick head.
I think I made him late for something though....

Well now that I have resolved all of the sparying paint issues I have been busy spraying and installing panels in the that I'm working on. Here are a few photos. Sorry about the quality, I have a small fortune in camera equipment and I keep forgetting to bring a good camera as oppose to the iPhone in my back pocket.
Cheers,
JC

looks like a quality build but I'm not sure about the unit either side of the hob though.it looks like it might be a bit restricting in use. and is it not to close to the burners?

The two units on either side of the cooktop are pull out drawers for oils, vinegars etc for cooking. They are self closing. As for closeness to the cooktop, you are right. In my kitchen we are 1' away from the burners. Anything closer and they nust put a fire retardent material on the sides. Which they are going to do. Not me. Total space from side to side is 4' with the cooktop be approx 3'.

Looks great!  How long have you been working on this?
Thank you for the compliment. I have been on this project for 6 months now, going on 7. Had some down time due to learning how to spray paint. The client originally wanted everything hand painted, but then changed there mind. They new that it would take more time as I needed to learn how to spray paint. Went through many headaches, but the help of Tomas Bader and Tim Raleigh, both foggers, I was able to iron out all of the bugs. Now spraying like mad.
Also, I made all doors, drawer fronts and drawer boxes. Nothing purchased from third party. Alos, the cabinet boxes are 3/4" maple veneered that were hand finished. The face frame is a custom size and extend only 1/32" inside the cabinet. All done on site after I made the cabinets, installed and levelled them.
The client wanted everything custom and is paying me by the hour. Lot's of changes and additions are in the pipeline. Could be there another 2-3 months.
Cheers,
