I am one of very few people (1) that I know of that enjoys sanding.  I have a RO125 and a DTS400 (thanks, Bob), that both leave very little mess thanks to the CT22.  I know you have to spend more time sanding than building, but I really enjoy it.  This is something that I just learned about myself.  I don't know if its just because the tools work so well, or if I should consider seeking professional mental help.  I don't think I would like sanding old stuff (paint, finish, etc), but on new projects, it is kind of theraputic.  (I'm a hobbyist, so anything other than the daily grind is theraputic.)  I may well develope a full-on Festool sander fetish.  I was thinking of getting the ES125 next, but I think it might be a little redundent given the other 2 sanders I have.  Maybe the LS130 would be a better next aquisition.  I was reading the thread on the DX93, but I don't currently have much need for a detail sander.  The 400 gets into the corners plenty well on most of my stuff.

Are there other freaks out there like me?  Am I the only one?  Should we start a support group?

(oh, wait, that's what theFOG is ;D)

I am not one of you but I understand the problem. There are things (I'm not willing to discuss on here) that I like to do to the point of obsession which provide me with therapy. So, I thought I'd reply because none of the other readers have and you could end up feeling lonely!!

You go and sand all you like. There's not too much that is bad that will come of it!

You ARE the support group Garry!

I knew I recognized your avatar from the cat juggling forum Larry! or was it fish teasing

Hello,

I never really enjoyed sanding all that much until getting some festool sanders.  The dust collection is so good and the wide choice for abrassives makes the job easier.  I definately don't mind sanding or finishing for that matter.  I like to see a project go through all the paces.

best,
JJ

HI,

I  like to sand too. It is nice to see the results. But before I used the Festool sanders it was more of  a chore. The Festool equipment makes sanding a reasonably fast efficient part of the work.  I also just enjoy using good tools period no matter what the task.

I think you should buy one (at least one) of every Festool sander.  You may be a freak, but at least you'll be happy!

I'm well on my way.  A couple more, for sure.

I think you can tell whether you actually like sanding or just enjoy the Festool sanders bu this little test.  Would you like to sand with an Ozito sander and no dust collection?  If the answer is yes then you are a sanding freak and could probably make money by hiring your self out to do sanding for the other 99.9% of us who don't enjoy it. That way you would need to buy all the Festool sanders (just in case) and the beuty of it all would be that they would all be tax deductable!

BTW Think Ozito think $30 sander, read vibrations through your whole arm within one minute - I speak from experience!

Garry, thank you for having the courage to stand up and fight for those of us so rudely and crudely discriminated against. I too am a sanding freak and to such an extent I am going to start Sanders Anonymous (SA). Of course what is said during our meetings stays there and their will be various levels within the group much like the caste system in India. Of course the Brahmin level would be those of us with at least five Festool sanders. The Untouchable section will be those sporting a Black and Decker sander or something equally despicable. ;D However, the facts still remain that thos in SA are far superior to those outside. A simple fact brought to light by the super fine quality of our finished work due to the love and attention that may only be given by an SA member. I hope that this helps.  ;) :D ;D :o ::) Fred

I have used the cheap sanders, but mostly for stripping old paint/finishes, which I do NOT enjoy. I'm pretty sure I would not like hand sanding, either.  Having said that, I can remember sanding about 30 years ago with monsterous red/orand black and decker full sheet sander (I was 5 and the sander belonged to my grandfather) and being amazed at the differenct the wood I'd touched with this miracle machine vs. where it was still raw.

Maybe just I have a thing for smooth, not necessarily sanding :o

hey nothing wrong with loving to sand, I admit it is more fun since I have been using festool.  you are probably alot like John Wayne was,  ...... ::) 8)  A real TRUE GRIT kinda guy!!! :-*

Garry, I believe that there are twelve step programs to help with your malady.  Don't give up hope, stick with the program, contact your sponsor whenever the urge arises and soon you will be as miserable as the rest of us when it comes to sanding. :P :D ;D
