i dont know if its a good idea or not but i was planning on cutting the legs on my 1080 because i use it for my kapex.i wanted a more comfortable work hight.it looks like it will work.anybody have any ideas or thoughts on that

How about adding another 1080 and building a "U" shaped plywood unit that would hang between the two 1080s, form the T slots on the ends, and would leave the saw surface even with the surface of the 1080s which would then offer support on either side for whatever you are cutting with the Kapex.

Best,
Todd

Todd,

That is exactly what I plan on trying with my old style MFTs for my cheapo Hitachi mitre saw!  I might also make another "module" that will be a router table.

I can't speak to the Kapex.  But I opted to build a box and set the 1080 on top of it.  The result is the same height as an MFT/3.  More useful than I would have dreamed.[attachthumb=1]

Plenty of good ideas.  I have a 1080 and would like to pick up an MFT/3 and use them together.  I really like webfarmer's idea.

mark90,

FWIW, I cut the legs off of my 800s for just this same purpose. I used my electric angle grinder to cut the legs then smoothed the bottoms flat. The setup works well. I will put up a few pics of my overall setup in a few days.

thanks for everyones great ideas i am gonna cut the legs. the saw is just too high when its on the table

I used a hand hack saw and then smoothed with a grinder.

Post a pciture when you are done if you can.

I actually cut the cross members to separate the legs and make the legs taller.

The legs will still cut easily though looks like the same material a little thicker is all.

What I can say is you can always cut more.

I can't believe you are serious. I have my SCMS (Bosch 12")mounted on a bench which is a good 9" higher than my MFT, and you want to cut the legs off it ?

I thought about using a hack saw for my cuts above, but decided that it might be too time consuming or might take too much sweat. So I used the angle grinder with a cutting disc to make the cuts, then grinded smooth.

The hack saw took no longer than 3-5 minutes , the metal was easy to cut.

Come to think if it Ken, my Miter saw is on a bench 40" high and then another 5 inches to the table so I can not see lowering the table for a miter saw placement, at least not for me.  I like a power miter box as high as possible.
