I'm getting chipout with the TSV 60

Hey folks, I recently got the TSV 60 to cut melamine but I seem to be getting a lot of chipout on the other side of the board (underneath).

Any ideas why that happens?

If that's the underside, try increasing the depth of cut. That will change the angle of the teeth when they contact the melamine. Also try cutting with a sacrificial board underneath, it will act as a 'splinter guard'.

That’s good advice from Lincoln.

If cutting deeper causes the top to chip then pre-score the top.
Set the depth to 2mm and pull the saw backwards. Then proceed full depth forward.

He has the TSV, so has the scoring blade [smile]

Agreed, a deeper cut makes the teeth on the bottom side cut upward, rather than forward. That can make a much smoother cut on the back side.
Though cutting with 100% support on that surface should be enough.

I have a TSV60, the set-up might take a while to get to your own liking.

Here is how mine is set up :
- scoring blade to maximum depth, this is a V shaped blade so this makes the groove as wide and deep as possible to stop the junk that you find in melamine board being pulled up and causing chip out
- blade should be plunged to depth of work plus gullet depth, as a rough guide on 19mm stock, blade will be plunged to just under 30mm
- do loads of test cuts and slowly move the main blade cut over to the left of the V groove until it just stars microchipping, then move it back a notch, in reality you are moving the scoring blade to the right, but this is easier to explain

Since mine has been set up, I have not touched the settings, I use it and it works. The off-cut chips out with how I have mine set-up, this might not work for you, my goal was to have top and bottom chip free with one pass.

@Fourmi Did you get any chipout on the underside? That seems to be the worst part on my current setup.

I'll try that as well. Even though that will be a problem using my MFT top for cross cuts. Thank you.
