Since Festool has dropped their TI 15 impact driver, please adapt this design

http://toolmonger.com/2010/04/14/turn-just-about-any-drill-into-an-impact-driver/

and make an impact driver chuck for each drill (T drills, C drills, etc).  If this was done and priced competitively with the other drill chucks that Festool makes I think it would be an instant best seller as people who currently own a Festool drill would buy one and future drill purchases would likely include one.  It is much easier to take one extra chuck to a job site than another driver with batteries, charger, etc.

Bosch is now challenging Festool with their new Flexiclick so it is up to Festool to step up to the challenge

Interesting. That would be a great idea to have an impact chuck, making drills to an all in one. One thing I noted though is the size ...... almost 7" long. I think for it to take off as an impact driver it would need to be much , much shorter.

I agree that Festool need to get back into the impact driver market urgently. Whether the best route is an adaptor I couldn't say; the engineering implications are outside my sphere. If it is possible then I can't see how it wouldn't sell.

Personally I would just like to be able buy a Festool impact driver (18volt for preference). My old Bosch 10.8volt model has seen some years service now and is getting close to (enforced through ill health) retirement. I have my eye on the Bosch GDXVECN which has a built in 1/2 inch drive as well as 1/4 inch hex and 3 speeds available. At about £125 in the UK plus another ton for a wireless charging+battery set it looks a bargain.

If Festool had something similar I would place an order straight away and be able to use my existing charger and 14.4/18 volt batteries from my other drill/jigsaw tools.

Thing is, more and more people are looking for an integrated set of cordless tools where the same batteries and chargers are used across a range of tools.
To drop the idea of doing an impact screwdriver nowadays is a total fail as they have become one of the tools that pretty much most people (or at least most who have used one extensively in the past) want.

Even if its not the strongest tool in the lineup its still one people look for and maybe they can put up with something that's not the absolute best one out there as long as the other tools are good.

Not doing an Impact screwdriver will limit their market considerably.

That thing on the front of an already long drill is a bit much. Impact screwdrivers are usually very short and able to reach into tight spaces.

I completely agree.  The Mastercraft chuck is very clunky and way too big.  However, if Bosch can make a reasonably sized impact adapter for their Flexclick drill I have no doubt that Festool could do the same.

They don't. You're mixing impact directions.

If you see how small impact mechanisms in real impact drivers are, you'd think that easily fit inside a FastFix chuck. I would buy such a chuck, nice to complement my Festool drills.

Thinking a little more about it, an add-on chuck would seem to be the only way that Festool could bring an impact driver to the NA market in a reasonable amount of time.  A new driver would probably require UL approval and be at least another year away.

Wish festool would bring out a propper impact  18 v no attachments just loads of torque the ti 15 was rubbish for a lot of reasons manly all the chuck buiseness  its the only tool in my arsenal thats not green  i have a millwaulkee m 18 brushless impact  red and black yuk

An impact adapter wouldn't work so well in a T-Series or C-Series drill because they don't have a high enough RPM to produce enough impacts per minute. Take a look at the RPM of any impact driver, my Milwaukee M12 is 2650RPM.

I could see an adapter possibly working well on a PDC/DRC drill but that would really increase the length. It would be too much of a gimmick to me.

Here's a cool video for anyone that hasn't seen it yet:

Rubbish is extreme, but it's not of the calibre you'd expect from Festool. I like my Centrotec flexibility, so I'll stick with it until they fix their range with 18V option ... though I can seriously hear Metabo calling me and I do have a shopping urge for tomorrow morning [embarassed]

I find it really difficult to get excited over an impact driver. My Ti 15 does everything that my Makita did, puts screws in with a lot of noise.
It's never let me down in 3 years but I never bought the converter chuck to turn it into a drill, just use it as an impact and it's ok.

I sold my ti 15 after a week as ime in construction 90% of the time and honestly it had no where near as much torque as previous impacts i own which is dissapointing as i have loads of festool sets with batteries i have a m 18 fuel now and it drives anything into anything all day long 5.0 ah 18 v

Yes, disappointing is my take on the Ti15, too heavy, to weak and only good at drilling smaller holes. Festool would be better off making a proper 18V Impact, cues to be taken from Hitachi, Bosch, Makita, Milwaukee... (list goes on).

A CXS impact would be SUPER for me (not excluding an 18V impact of course).
That would be a little game changer for my set up for sure. :)

239 $AU seems pretty good.https://sydneytools.com.au/metabo-p...5erSdWjNszmeCuTPyW1OR-_OLklyBKn2Y3RoCj7Pw_wcB

Holmz: the grip on the PowerMaxx is as atrocious as the 80's product name.

[big grin]

(apart from that Metabo do make some great stuff)

I liked the idea of the Ti15 but was pursuaded to not buy it by comments here on FOG.  Instead I got a T18+3, CXS and a Centrotec set.  These cover almost all of my needs.  For the occasion I need an impact, I kept a Dewalt 18V.

I guess I am in a minority, but I really like my TI15. My other Festool drills take care of making round holes. The TI15 does a great job of pounding home lag screws. It's staying in the lineup.
