Imperial Scale on TS55

I guess this should actually be two questions:
1.  What is the general consensus on using the Imperial depth of cut scale on the TS 55 as opposed to (me) just adjusting to metric?
2.  I'm sure this is simple, but I can't see how to install the Imperial depth of cut scale.  The Depth Stop is in the way.  Tips?
 
The TS55 REQ Supplementary manual online has some pictures of how to install it along with written instructions. Unless it's important to you to measure depth of cut exactly and you think in inches, it's not something I would do. I have not done it. Mostly I just have begun to learn what the standard wood thicknesses I work with are in mm; like 3/4", 7/8", etc. When I set depth it's really only to make sure it cuts all the way through the wood, so I don't need to know exactly what the depth is in inches.
