Guys
Training for a new job and I am in the Atlanta area for 2 more weeks -

Good Woodworking shops?

Good Restaurants- steak house?

Places I should visit / I have only flown thru Atlanta never visited.

Thanks
Frank

Highland Woodworking is the best, but not close to Norcross.  Woodcraft on Holcomb Bridge Road is close to Norcross, but of course, seen one, seen them all.  Peachtree Woodworking Supply is in Norcross.

Downtown - The World of Coca-cola.  World of Coca-Cola

I've heard that the Atlanta Cyclorama has really been upgraded and is worth seeing, especially for Yankees.  [wink]  Atlanta’s Cyclorama  The Cyclorama is in Grant Park.  There are some trendy restaurants, mostly for the under 40 crowd, in that area and in Midtown.  For great barbecue, check out Fox Brother's Barbecue in the Old 4th Ward.  Fox Bros Bar-B-Q

Also, there is a new shopping center that just opened and is getting a lot of attention, if you're into that.  It's called Avalon and is off of hwy 400 and the Old Milton exit.  There's a handful of new restaurants there, too.  It's a good 20 minute ride north of Norcross.

Steak houses - I am always disappointed (except for some in Texas).  My steaks grilled at home are always better.  Capital Grill (locations in Buckhead and Dunwoody) has a pretty good Delmonico.

This is probably what you're looking for - Buckhead is the old stand by and is the area that everyone usually recommends.  Lot's of expensive steak places and other restaurants in that part of town.  Buckhead

Another vote for Highland (purchase my T-18 there 5 years ago). Ever time I'm in Atalanta working, a visit with Kreg and a trip to Highland (in that ordered, usually with Kreg) are a must.

Highland woodworking for sure
You also need to go see Richard at Rare Woods &Veneers 14th and Hemphill by Ga Tech
Some eats in that area Star Provisions take out-Fried chicken is great, taqueria Del Sol, Hankook Taqueria

There's some amazing Asian and Mexican food on Buford Highway Check out eater Atlanta its pretty close to norcross Lees Bakery and Gu's Bistro are good choices

Best steak house is Rathbuns in Inman Park McKendricks at perimeter is close to you Bones and Chops in buckhead are good too

+1 for Bones in Buckhead. The steaks, side dishes, service, and atmosphere are all top notch.  I used to travel to Atlanta all the time on business and always reserved an evening for Bones.

Bones for steaks. Highland Woodworking, Woodcraft, and Rockler (no Festool stuff, but great store) for browsing. High museum for art. Texas One on Irby Street for BBQ. OK Cafe for breakfast or lunch. Goldbergs for deli food.

Goldberg's is not a very good deli, imo.  Atlanta, does not have a real NY deli that I know of any more.  Many years ago there was a good one downtown called Hal's, I think it was.

Personally, I don't think OK Cafe is worth the trip for a visitor.  If you do go to OK Cafe, try the take out buffet in back of the restaurant.  That way you can try a little bit of everything.  The veggies are good.  However, they have only four counter type seats in the to go area.

For a really good breakfast, try Original House of Pancakes off of La Vista and Cheshire Bridge Rd.  It's not far from Highland Woodworking.

Texas One?  Did you mean One Star Ranch?  Unless it has greatly improved, Fox Brothers is much better.  The Greater Good BBQ on Roswell Road near Weiuca is good too, as is Pig and Chic in the Fountain Oaks Shopping Center on Roswell Rd.

If you have the time, check out Brese planes.  Ron Brese makes absolutely beautiful stainless and brass planes from a shop at his home.  He is about an hour and 45 minutes south of Norcross, but makes beautiful furniture, and even more beautiful planes.  Heading down and back would be a day with the visit but he will impress you and if you are into craftsmanship, you will leave inspired.  But it could hit your wallet in a big way!

Czeck Edge is another Atlanta based, small family owned woodworking related company.  Don't don't think they have a store that you can visit, but Highland Woodworking carries their products.
