Hi,
have you use any one of those rules?
witch one is better? precise, quality ?
I'm not to sure witch one I will buy .
Thanks..

I've not used the woodpecker t-rule, but used the incra rule for the first time at last months advanced router class.  I liked it enough that I plan to buy one.  Its a very nice tool, much quicker and more accurate than a tape measure.

Hi Fred,

Does the Incra T-Rule is perfect square? how about when you move that red bar? it is tight fit?

Thanks

I have a Woodpecker T square (24") and a 6" and 12" Incra squares. They all work well, but I don't think you can compair them for the same layout work. The woodpecker T square has a much larger area to square up, but for smaller parts the Incra wil work better. I missed out on getting the smaller one time tool squares woodpeckers offered as they would have filled the smaller rule spot for me.

I agree with Trystan. I have them both and I use them both. The Incra is great for laying out mortises and hinge locations etc. Mine is the metric/imperial 12 inch version and it's very useful to convert imperial to metric and vise versa when doing detailed projects. For example, I mark 4.125 inches...then slide the ruler down to my mark and read it in metric.

Sadly for the most part the Woodpeckers T square just sits in the drawer. I bought it for making repeated markings, but now I have a set of Woodpeckers rules with rule stops. This is much faster and there is no chance of "inching" yourself when marking.

Can't answer those questions since I only used it a couple times during the class, but based on the quality of other incra products I'd bet it's square and stays square even if you move the red bar.  I do plan to order one with my next order from woodpeckers.

I have the Woodpecker 6-inch saddle T-square and the 12-inch Incra T-rule.  I don't use the Incra at all anymore.  I think I'd still use it if I had purchased the smaller size - the 12 inch is simply too awkward for me.  I love the small Woodpecker saddle, which was a one-time offering, and use it routinely.  I don't have, and don't think I'd use the larger Woodpecker as much.  Both are equally precise from my perspective.

The Incra is a perfect square.  The knobs loosen to realign it if it gets out of square.  The red bar is meant to slide along the surface it butts against, and it does stay in square when moved.  The idea is to put the point of the pencil in the hole and slide the red bar along to draw a line, or to keep it stationary and put a precise point on whatever you are marking.

As others have mentioned, it is more useful for smaller, more precise layouts, as it is either 12" or 6" long.

There's a raised rib on the red anodized aluminum bar that the steel ruler registers against.  Once you tighten the two knobs, it should be at a perfect 90 degree angle no matter where you have it registered on the aluminum bar, as long as both screws are in the track.

I have them both plus a few others from both companies.  I like them all. If you are marking smaller things go with the Incra. If you are doing sheet goods and wider boards go with the Woodpeckers.

The Incra 12" can get a bit floppy. The edge of the Incra is more prone to catching on rough spots  on solid wood than the Woodpeckers.

The Woodpeckers will take up to a .9mm pencil lead which holds up better than the .5mm on the Incra when marking rougher wood (including oak plywood).

The Incra 6" has the advantage of marking  in 1/64th increments. The Woodpeckers  only goes down to a 1/16"

Incra also makes a 3" T Rule .  It is  very handy for small items.

My real answer to your question would be to get both.

Seth

I think Seth hit the nail on the head - get both.

I do mostly furniture, very little sheetgoods work, so the incras work for me.  I have the 3 inch incra Seth mentions.  The 3 incher fits in my shirt pocket along with a 3 inch digital caliper and a 0.5mm pencil.  All the layout tools I need in one pocket!!

Incra, Woodpeckers
Hi
have the woodpeckers which is great for larger work, sheet panels , kitchen carcases etc.

Use it to check the set up of my MFT for cross cutting Unit carcases, and shelving.

Like many others, I have both.  And I use them both.

Broadly speaking, I would say that good measuring tools are a requirement for doing good work.
