Interbuild 2007 Show Pictures

For those interested, Festool have now put some pictures online from their stand at the Interbuild 2007 trade show in Birmingham, UK, held last week. The photo index page is HERE.

Oh, and just to get you looking  ;D there was a brand new, as yet totally unannounced*** product located discretely somewhere on the stand . I spotted it whilst I was there, and asked about it. I was told it would be available (at least in Europe) "sometime next year".

No prizes, but who will be first to identify it?

Thanks for the many great photographs!  Many products I have not seen before - I never been to large trade show of this sort.

Picture 20, what is that hanging on the wall in the background - that looks roughly like a large mitre gauge - just to the left of the video screen?

Picture 23 - is the Kapex hose wrapped with something, or is that just some sort of light interference pattern due to the camera and Hz of the lighting waveforms?

Picture 32 - So this Audi can drive in a straight line?  I still want the real one, or at least a ride in Dan's.

Picture 40 - What was featured in the literature?

Picture 47 - What is the source of vacuum for the holder of the SS workpiece?  Can a Festool vacuum machine be used for that purpose?

Clue 1 - The best 3 pictures of it are no.s 24, 27, and 33...

Clue 2 - It's something that has been discussed in these forums on a number of occasions...

You mean that fuzzy thing on the wall?   I looked VERY carefully!  It's obvious that it's a... fuzzy round thing!    I think the Festool name will be "FRT55".  Correct? ;D

OK, the thing that's common to each of these photos and which I don't recognise is the box mounted on top of the right-hand dust extractor in photo 27:

It has a narrow grey hose coming out the front, and this looks as though it's the same hose that goes into the workpiece holder in photo 6:

Of course, someone might immediately recognise it, and if they do, please put me out of my misery - what is it?  ???

Yes, it's a compressor in a systainer 2. Don't know what that clamp-thing is, but that wasn't festool (AFAIK).

The controls were all on one end, and are as follows:

1 - plug-it socket (mains in);
2 - on/off switch;
3 - pressure gauge;
4 - thermal cut-out (I think);
5 - air intake fan;
6 - QC air connection out.

It was a 'proper' Festool product, rather than a one-off special/prototype. The pressure gauge had festool's logo on the face, and it had a proper festool sticker on the front with a part number (though I can't remember what it was!).

I was told by a Festool employee it was a genuine product, and would probably be available sometime next year.

So did you get any specs on the compressor? I'd have died and gone to heaven if you can run an air nailer off it.

No specs I'm afraid, other than I was told it was a very good compressor, and quite quiet too....

I'm guessing (and it is just a guess) that being in a sys2 there isn't room for a tank in there, so it'd probably not be any good for a nailer  but maybe there'll be an add-on systainer with a tank in, like the Prebena one?

Yay! Although I have to say that I was pointed in that direction by Dave Ronyak when he asked about the workpiece holder that he saw in photo 47...

I think he was talking about the same grey hose that I mentioned.

I wonder whether the grey hose in photo No 6, with its green and black connectors, is actually connected to anything at the workpiece holder end? Or is the end just lying there?

That's what I was thinking. Maybe they bought up Prebena? Seems like the only other thing it could be for would be to run their own air tools, which are a lot of CFM no? Not like there's a Festool airbrush setup. Maybe I will get that $99 compressor after all, just as a stopgap.

By the time it's available in NA the JacPac should be about $20.00 W/extra canister.

It's a vacuum pump! Hooked up to the rotating platform where the solid surface is being polished. I saw this thing at the Woodcraft open house last month! Very cool indeed!  It can also be connected to a bag for veneer press use! I have no other info or specs or cost but it may be available soon!

I was given the distinct impression it was a compressor. Unfortunately, I didn't pay much attention to what the hose was connected to......or what that multi-angle-hold-down-thingy was.

Dave - was it the Festool one you saw, or just a similar thing? It seems strange that Festool would have something like that in the US (even in prototype/pre-production form) before it's even announced in Europe (I've just had a quick look on festool.de, and there's nothing on there).
