... I also don't understand why he would not have run some of the tests before he took the saw apart- at least get some baseline readings on power draw and whatever else is possible prior to modification.
He did not modify anything.
He took it apart and put it back together.
I realize he did not go in with the intention of modifying anything but he ended up doing so anyway. He had to pry some pieces out with screwdrivers. He was open about crushing the brush holder and I think someone else point out that he damaged something else at one point while taking it apart.
I don't think anyone can reassemble a factory made product back quite the same as it came from the factory and therefore I think it makes sense to test whatever can be tested prior to taking it apart. Maybe it had no effect but maybe it did.
Yep - modified seems to intend to make better or different, and destroyed seems a bit harsh as it still works.
So I am not sure what the proper verb or adverb would be.
But FT repairs these units... so it would not be unheard of that it can be repaired outside of a factory. Chistofferson even posted something like he can do a reassemble in 10 minutes.
I could see FT charging to repair the broken bits, however it is looking like their posting of the serial number indicates some displeasure as well as the banning of 'the videjos'.
Alternatively they (FT) could make a positive statement and repair it... A good marketing and public relations person usually excels at that sort of stuff, so I am hopeful that the saw can be reborn to its intended glory.
