I'm afraid you don't understand the issues involved here.  First, your being from Australia you don't understand the litigious nature of so many people in the US.

Thanks Brice, but I understand fully.

Unfortunately, liability does not apply to posts on a forum made by a third party. These are not videos of hate-crimes, defamatory accusation, promoting vilification or acts of terror. These are just videos of people doing stupid/dangerous things. I dare say a good portion of the reality-based TV industry of the US is based on activities of that nature; from Mythbusters to most of MTV's output. A simple "Don't try this at home" disclaimer seems to work for them... why not FOG?

As I said before, I have no problem with video's being removed for commercial reasons but I could care less in this instance. Shane has stated he does not want any "unsafe" video's posted on FOG. This is in no way a Good Thing.

Mike, I'm afraid you don't understand the issues involved here.  First, your being from Australia you don't understand the litigious nature of so many people in the US.  For this reason Festool has to be cautious in what is allowed to be shown here.  It is all too easy to be critical when you have nothing to lose.  Second, original poster is the owner of a competing company posting under an alias to promote his products on Festool's forum. That is out of line, way out of line.  I think this whole thread should be deleted.

Brice

Well said!  And I second the deletion recommendation.  And I would have no problem with FOG adopting a "no Eureka Zone" posts.

I don't think the fog is a democracy, but you may get your way.  [ban].............. [popcorn]............... [thumbs up]

Ok, I'll add to this, no videos showing anything but a festool product.  Further if the festool logo is not apropriately displayed that should be taken down imediately!

Sorry for the small attempt at comedy, but this thread has gone to lunacy!  My god a forum is supposed to be about exchange of differing opinions and learning from one another.  I've gained some tremendous knowledge here and seen numerous threads where differences in opinion were strong, but we all had our say and moved on. I have to say this is scary.  At some point does it just become a non stop sales picth for a single product.  I certainly hope not.  It would kill a great product (this forum).

We have rules on the forum which are not partial to any particular "source" or "brand".  The same rules apply, and have been applied, to instances where the unsafe practice was with a Festool and the content was removed.  Some members may not agree with this rule but I would ask that members respect our position as owners of the forum.

There is nothing in the forum rules that prohibits videos showing other brands.  There are plenty of threads and lots of content about other product brands, including those that are direct competitors.  The issue at hand is that we do not allow video showing someone doing something that is unsafe.

If members want to share unsafe practices or content then do so on a forum that allows that sort of thing.  This forum does not.

Shane, block it strip it whatever.  My comment was about going from discussiong a topic  to proposing the deletion of threads.  But then there is much more to life than this so its my last 2cw.

This seems simple to me. I respect Shane, so I respect his decisions on how best to run this forum. If I didn't respect those decisions, I can go elsewhere.  What's to discuss?

I'd like to see this thread closed, it's run its course and can only lead to ill feeling that's beneath us fine foggers! Plenty of rubbish to watch on youtube if that's your bag.

Cheers all,
Rick

Ok, I am locking the thread at this point.  If anyone would like to share their thoughts, please feel free to PM myself or a moderator.
