Is FOG site activity down?

There seems to be fewer posts.  Subjective observation as I never quantified the activity in the past and now.

Just curious.

If you are interesting is looking at the stats, you can scroll down on the home page to Forum State.  Click on the icon and then scroll down to the bottom.  Click on the icon by the month or year and it will expand.  Hope this helps.

I would assume that it is somewhat seasonal? Of course there are pros here, but most of the hobbyist types do other things in the spring/summer. Woodworking is considered a colder weather activity by most people. Stands to reason that there would be less commentary.
Yes, there are a few folks in the southern hemisphere, but I would bet that the percentage is low.

Probably also just less things to say really.  Awaiting Festool NA on releasing the backlog of stuff.  There's really only so many times one can comment on the BBQ systainer.

haha! Someone should start a dead-horse thread... [dead horse] chime in on the dead horse [dead horse] we've beaten further that you wish to beat up yet more...  [dead horse]

FUSA could submit it to Germany as "real-life users would like these things addressed"  [thumbs up]

World wide forum activity is reducing in all hobbies and interests due to people moving to face book etc. Before forums were News Groups were used and they suffered the same fate as Fora are now seeing. The forum I see that has suffered the most is SMC but they will deny it on a stack of bibles or have done in the past.

The decrease in forum posting goes hand in hand with the increase of other social media. I tend to only post/respond to tool topics here, while the things I make I tend to post to IG. I suspect it's the same for many others.

The “indicator” I relied on was that I would look at “Recent Posts”, and then come back 2 hours later and the first listing on “recent posts” remained unchanged.  It just seemed to me that it rarely went 2 hours without any new posts.

That could be my imagination though.

I don't know which I would be most passionate about  NAINA or the screwed-up Sys3 sizing?

I know what you mean there. I have heard that before. I did have a Facebook account, but gave up on it years ago. I've never had IG or any other, for that matter. It probably still exists, but I don't even remember the log in.
After having the FB for a while, I started seeing it as a potentially addictive time suck, with no real redeeming value. Might just be an old guy thing though? I would rather socialize with people in person.

I used to post on three or four forums.  I still respond to old threads on the other forums, but I don’t initiate any threads and I don’t look-see if there is a thread to post to.  It was eating up too many hours.

I still have active readership for the forums that are related to my cars.  A practice I recommend.  (Even better, read the posts for cars you intend to buy before doing so.  You can avoid purchasing errors that could be costly.)

I am posting here more than I would if my back was not preventing me from doing more wood working.  I makes me feel more connected to the hobby than just moping about the pain.

Sadly I must agree forums are going to the wayside. I don’t use any social media apps outside of YouTube so forums have been a great source of interactive communication for me for years. I appreciate that this one is as active as it is, and that keeps me checking in every day.

I don't know how anyone can use Facebook Groups. I reinstated my FB account late last year to join a specific group and the user experience is terrible. I missed a ton of posts, search is inaccurate, the comments are out of order and I have to click multiple times just to see all of them in sequential order...maybe I'm just old, but I don't see myself ever becoming truly engaged in Facebook Groups as I have been some of the forums I've belonged to.

Hard pass for me. I'll stick with forums.

I love Pinterest for the breadth of great craft ideas, and use Insta a little to build up a bit of exposure for the things I make, but I absolutely hate anything Facebook related. I really don't understand how people get so addicted to the huge sprawling mess it is and practically live their lives on it.

Firstly I must say the only social media I use is Fora and only four of those. A point someone made elsewhere is that a forum is a bank of searchable knowledge which is very easy to access and find stuff in. Other social media platforms do not present the same advantages so I am told. As Derek Cohen knows I was a long time contributor to the Australian WW forum and a few years ago I stopped going there because all the older guys who used to post dropped out and a generational change took place so I lost interest. It happened fairly quickly and it is something that also happened on a few other fora as well. My business interests which were centred around the Australian forum also ceased about the same time so that was another reason I stopped posting as well.

[member=58818]Mini Me[/member] I must admit the Marketplace is the only tab I keep open and use on the Aust WW forum.

I used to be a big contributor to CNC Zone, but the ego's and nastiness from some users there was something to behold, I can't recall the last time I checked it out, let alone posted there.

Facebook forums are okay for "right now" type of posts. Finding historical information is terrible. Plus, it seems there's too many people on there lacking manners. Way too many.

Yep, forums for me, too.

I like forums but I don't feel like posting anymore as it feels like I'm posting to a void. Maybe if we had a like feature to know that the posts are appreciated?

I also think I lost interest when my posts were drowned out by Festool Recon updates and other non content related threads. I come to forums to learn and share.

I've switched mostly to Instagram. It's just easier for me.

I really like this...the dead-horse thread should start tonight. It would be a great way to compartmentalize those tool frustrations that users have, that Festool Corporate seems to continually ignore. All of the grievances in a simple bucket that the corporate folks could mull over and think about.
Sedge is always proselytising about how Festool listens but his argument is really a half-hearted attempt to buoy up senior management. It rings hollow with me.

I was at Woodcraft today and played around with the new RSC 18 recip saw...it weighed, WITHOUT a battery, as much as a Milwaukee Sawzall WITH a XC6.0 battery that weighs almost 2 pounds. The RSC needs to go on a diet and fast.

Festool needs to address some of these issues...the dead-horse thread is the answer.

So...old guy needing help here. Isn't this a forum or am I missing something? Seriously, is the FOG a forum or not?. I honestly don't know because I thought that all "type in" communications were considered to be a forum. Maybe the definition of FORUM is subtle.

I just know "social media" is not my cup of tea...are they also a forum?  Twitter...Facebook...Instagram...my oh my...everyone wants to be a celebrity with zero credentials. Is that really the least common denominator and something to be proud of?

I guess I just have a knee-jerk reaction when I search for something, click on it and within 5 seconds a screen comes up asking me to join and provide my email address. Pinterest is one of the worst...now is that considered a forum?

I'm getting to the point that I'll just absolutely reject any information that's wanted from a web-site because I have absolutely no idea where it will lead. Everyone suddenly wants a pound of flesh, that used to be reserved for fictional stories.  [big grin]  But that was years ago... [smile]

FOG is a forum, the only one I pay attention to.

I get notifications when someone I have “liked” at Facebook posts something. Not many of those because I don’t participate. I only have an account because my wife made one in my name in order to give someone another “like”.  [tongue]

Before Facebook cranked up there were these things called blogs. People wrote about their interests and the blogs became repositories of real information. It seems most blog keepers were seduced by the near instant feedback Facebook provided and stopped maintaining the low walled gardens they had been cultivating.
