I need a small sander and I was looking at the RO90.  I am planning to use abranet and I wonder if it is possible to use it with this small rotex?

I am not interested in another type of sandpaper.

Yes, but the size is my problem.  I know that I can cut it to fit from a larger size.  I also know that there is an abranet 3".  I wonder if it is possible to use it or it will be too small and not effective.  The RO90 pad is 3 1/2".

The delta won't be a problem because I can get abranet in rolls and cut the delta shape, it is easy to cut a delta shape than a circular shape.

I found something on painters forum and they said the way of the holes, center hole and pad size, it might cause the dust extraction not to be as good as with festool paper.  I will have to use also a protector pad and might cause to clog.

I know that I can buy it and test for the 30 days, but I want to ask first.

Using paper that doesn't fully cover the pad is a very bad idea. Your pad will wear prematurely, you can't sand up to edges and the exposed hook and loop will scratch your workpiece badly.

If you want a RO 90, either use Festool paper that's meant for it or go to the extra length of making abranet to size. Making round paper is difficult, but if I needed it a lot, I would make some press to punch it out in one go instead of cutting it.

My experiance with abranet is that its open form causes it to wear the sanding pad very quickly I was told I should use an interface pad to stop this wear,
and as interface pads are soft they are of little use to me..

I gave all my abranet away

This seems to be  very "obstinate" starting position. Care to shed some light on why? ... maybe that could enable others here to give more useful advice.

Festool abrasives are designed specifically for their tools. Why not target a machine designed to use Abranet?

The "obstinate" part is that I had use both papers and I have better much better results with abranet.

I think Alex idea to make a press has made me think.  I guess is the way to go and it will make it easier and faster.

Which Festool paper and grits are you comparing to Abranet and what material were you sanding?

Rubin and brilliant.  standard grits 80-400  wood and plywood.

I decided to clean my "glass" shower in the bathroom and removed the hard water and soap scum.
I started with regular festool paper, it was working but slow and using a more papaer.  I switched right a way to abranet 220 and up.  It went faster.

After 600, I moved to platin 2 and hard felt with polishing.  They look better than when they were new.

I routinely use the delta abranet sheets on my RO90, works great.
Got the idea from painters in UK.
Use the interface as well to protect the Festool delta pad.
No experience with the round pads.

Have you tried Festool's viles?  If you have some already, even if it is larger diameter, give it a try.  Also, Granat is better at most stuff than Rubin and Brilliant.

I use Abranet all the time on my RO125, and it's very good, no problems with discs wrinkling or tearing, no interface pad and excellent dust extraction. Can't see any reason that you would have to only use Festool abrasives, unless you're Sheldon Cooper.

For me its granat from 40 to 80 grit then abranet from 100 to 400 grit.
I haven't used abranet on the ro90 or ro 125 yet but if I did I would use a mirka pad protector to be sure not to ruin the ro pad as there not cheap.
The mirka pad protector holes wont line up with the ro pad holes though.
