Sedge has a new video out on the CXS 12. In the beginning of the video he stated and pointed at the CXS 10.8 and said this is going away. Did I misunderstand? What does that mean for current owners? Will batteries still be available etc and if so at what point will they not be available.
I love this drill

Even if they did discontinue it immediately, I think we would be safe for 10 years. They would keep/supply repair/replacement parts, at least that long. I would suppose that would be limited to whatever they actually have in the EKat at the moment?

I hope they don't though. I really like that little driver. However, the fact that it has a unique battery is not in it's favor.

Batteries for the old NiCD generation of Festool drills are readily available still from 3rd parties. *)

So not think there is any risk of those being unavailable anytime soon.

EDIT, Coen is right, I remembered a listing that was not actually Festool one ... that said, my 12V packs for C12 Li are still going strong after 10 yrs ...

Only 3rd party ones. And when the original ones were still available a few years ago, nobody was buying them.

Even 12 years ago people walking into the Festool dealer with a TDK with two near-dead batteries never walked out with two new NiCD batteries.

The Lithium batteries contain more circuitry, so there is less 3rd party supply of them. But it's unlikely that small print dies. The cells might wear out, but those can be replaced with the right tools and know-how.

Don't hold your breath...if it's a critical part that you need, consider scouting up some alternatives for your own mental well being. I'm fully aware of the Festool corporate mantra but history has not been kind to Festool owners in this regard.

For instance, Festool offered the 850 planer with a bench stand, Festool then obsoleted the bench stand and within 3 years declared some of the bench stand parts were no longer available. Now that's not nice, it took me over 2 years to hunt down a depth gage ring so that I could actually use the 850 on the bench stand.

This situation may be unusual but is certainly not unheard of.  [mad] [mad]  Just make sure to CYA because Festool will not.

To be fair, the 10-year guarantee applies only to the tools, not the accessories. That distinction is very important with Festool and why CMS parts are still around - it was classified as a tool ..
