Is the RO90 worth an angry wife?

I have an 96x36 mahogany front door with a pair of sidelites that desperately needs refinishing.  I've been putting this off until the weather warms up, which is now has.  And my wife has been dropping bomb-sized hints that she'd really, really like that door refinished soon. However, the thought of picking up my old PC sander is not pleasant, I hate that thing.

Money's a little tight lately, but I'd really like to get a new sander.  I can either get a DX93 or wait for the RO90.

My question: is the RO90 is really worth waiting for?  It looks sweet, but since I can't get my hands on one to try, I'm not sure.  I've also seen comments that the dust extraction with the triangular pad isn't as good as the DX93.

I have the DX93 and it is a great little sander, but I also have an RO125FEQ.  I think the new RO90 will be worth the wait as it wil be more versitile than either of the two sanders I now own.  I might give up the DX93 if I get the RO90.  March first is only about 6 weeks away...

It's the perfect use of your tax refund (assuming you're getting one).  [wink]

The RO90 is just about a perfect sander for doing door/window refinishing work.

I could have dealt with it just being a rotex/r.o. sander without the deltex option but, what the hey.

It also works really well for re-finishing old wood working equipment as well.

Yeah, but who knows how badly they're already backordered.

I'd be more worried about the backhand from the angry wife for putting off the project that long!  [scared]  [eek]  [big grin]

Participating in this forum has made me realize how truly devious I am in either hiding or outright lying about my tool purchases with my wife. I swear, in every other part of life I am a really good husband. I am polite, I do lots of things for her, I put a lot of my money in savings, never shrink from sharing with my wife, never miss a bill or ramp up the credit, but when it comes to tools, I am like some kind of addict or gambler! "Oh, that Festool vac you noticed, that only cost $200, but it is engineered to protect our lungs as well as the lungs of your little dog that you love so much." "Oh you like that Lie Nielsen Handplane, it is pretty isn't it. Oh, about $100..." "I'd love to make that trellis for you honey. In fact, they have this thing called a Domino that will make this and many other projects very easy and accurate. Oh, a few hundred..."

Shameless!

However, here is the thing. Festool prices are so high, no way would the wife ever guess or dream they cost what they do! I think their out of this world design and innovation is contributing to a lack of ethics among customers like me!  [big grin]

Don't worry Deke, it's definitely a two-way street - haven't you noticed that the new bag/dress/shoes she brings home was always one she got on sale? [big grin]

O come on Deke, pull up ur big girl panties and place ur order. You only go round once in life, live it up. You saw me playin with the 90 , what you didnt see in the picture was my mouth wide open with amazement. She will forgive after the first new piece you make.  Good luck!  ahahahahaahah

Note to self !  Ask wife for permission before placing order.  Goin on 34 years of marriage, you think I got there by buying something that big without asking the boss first.  lol

Okay, here's whatcha do:

1) Go to Harbor Freight.  Buy that oscillating hunk o' junk they sell for $40.
2) During the drive, call dealer of choice and place order for RO90.
3) Refinish your door.  Yeah, the process won't be as easy, or fast, or dust free, and may not turn out as well.  But you know, sometimes 'done' is better than 'perfect'.
4) Gripe, moan, complain, and generally carry on about what a POJ that tool is.
5) When RO90 arrives, fall to your knees, praising heaven and hamburgers, and (optionally) decide at that point if you should refinish the door, again, because it is not up to yours, or Festool, standards.

That is a win-double win.
Wife gets door done sooner.
You get rewarded.
You get RO90 anyway  (bonus reward!)

NOTE:  Do *not* allow the initial results to, in any way, infer that HF junk is sufficient for doing these types of jobs in your home!  Or your future Festools may be at risk!

Hey man, I think I am wearing black asbestos jockies here. [big grin] In the past month I purchased a Domino with the additional systainer and a RO 90 on order. I also bought a LV low angle smoother plane and a *second* snow blower!

Thank God I'm not married!! In January so far I bought a used rotex 150, domino, tennon & cutters sys, mft/3 and have my fingers crossed that I might be able to get one of those recon'ed OF 1400's!  But to off-set the cost, I've started wearing my glasses more often and convinced myself that I dont REALLY need to buy contact lenses for a while  [eek]

Do we have a price on the RO90 yet? I can't weem to find it.

Greg, I'm surprised you couldn't find it, it's all over the net, $375.00.

Didn't look too hard, Brice. I figured someone would know right off the top. If you really wanted to rub something in, I am surprised you didn't bring up the score from the RedWings/Penguins game. [embarassed]
