Is the Router Bit Storage Insert available without the SYS 1?

I have tall bits that wouldn't fit in a Sys1, but I like the storage insert and if available would put it in a Sys2 to store my loose bits.
Is the insert available by itself?

Don't want to buy the Sys1 set, because I have no use for an empty Sys1.

Thanks,

Frank

Do you have a spare SYS 2? If not and you are planning on purchasing a new SYS 2 to house the insert then get your dealer to supply it in a SYS 2 and they up charge you the price difference between a regular SYS 1 and a SYS 2 since they will be putting the SYS 1 back in stock.  My dealers do this similar to holey rail exchanges on TS purchases.

Timely question Frank because long term I am considering the purchase of a Sys 2 and inserting a piece of timber with holes for the bits. I agree that the Sys 1 is not tall enough for some bits.

Fräseinlage SYS-OF D8/D12 700866.
Don't know if it's available separately in the USA?

The insert should be available as a spare part. You can order from your dealer or our service department.

I store all my whiteside router bits as follows:

If need be I cut out the inside in the lid for larger bits.

Love the red. Compliments the green stuff....

You could fit these upside sideways in 2 rows in a systainer for travel.

That's what I was afraid of.  I like those boxes too.  [cool]

And Frank, I send you an email thru the FOG. U can have my foam insert. Have no need for that. Just send me your contact detail and I ship the thing to you. Malte

Or you could buy a sheet of closed cell foam and drill a pattern of holes with a drill press. This kind of foam is usually used for packaging. You can buy it from 'Foam Factory'.

I'd suggest either neoprene rubber foam or Polyethylene foam, 3/4" - 1" thick.

When I bought a flat panel TV, there was a sheet of Polyethylene foam in the package. I cut it to size with the bandsaw so it fitted into a systainer and drilled a pattern of holes with the drill press. I'd recommend to drill the holes a bit undersized to get a tight fit.

Kind regards Henrik

I bought 2 of the inserts and put them in a syst 3. All my bits tall ad wide fit comfortably no issues. It is sort of a hassel pulling te top insert out to get to the bottom one as they do fit tight

I'm curious as to how much your Sys 3 weighs? I put mine in a SYS 2 because my larger bits didn't fit, and it's pretty heavy with a single layer. Can imagine that a dual-layer Sys3 might require a big breakfast to deal with?

Not a bad idea. Use anything to support the top one?

No didnt need anything, they fit pretty darned tight.

I had a extra syst 1 lying about being unused so I took the foam with my 1/4 inch shaft bit in it and put them in the syst 1. Which means If I run out of room, I can just add another piece of the foam in the syst 3 and still have plenty left.

It wasnt to bad. I got some pretty big bits in it. Including 2 panel raising bits and 2 sets of rail and stile bits.

But as said in a few post ago, I changed my set up to put the smaller 1/4 " shaft bits in one syst 1 and the others in the syst 3.
