It started with a CXS followed by an OF1010 at the end of last year.... The addiction started to take hold in the spring this year where a TS55, Midi and Carvex set following in short succession of each other.... Then I decided I "needed" the Domino df500 full set as the dewalt biscuit joiner I had just bought was not really worth the £200 it cost and since it could be returned within 30 days it was. At this stage I really thought I was set.....

Now joining the FOG just exposed me to more festool and a number of systainers found there way to me along with little bits here and there like clamps and parf dogs etc etc

Now this time I really did think that was enough as I was happy with my Bosch and Metabo sanders and my Bosch hammer drill was fine.....

Then this weekend when cutting some rails and styles for some cabinet doors I am making out of MDF I started looking at my cheap Metabo mitre saw and thought to myself I'd like a modest upgrade - my thinking being I am moving house next summer with number one on my wish list being a brick garage to set up as a permanent workshop. I was looking at £350 as my budget for a new saw and was interested in a few models at that price from dewalt and makita...

Anyway when looking on the Axminster site today I saw the Kapex 120 for £825 which seemed cheaper than usual but still more than I could really justify..... About an hour later I found myself on the phone to Axmister back ordering the Kapex for when they are back in stock next week!!

The craziest part of this purchase and all my other festool purchases..... I work in IT and only butcher wood as a hobby!! And until I move house in a back garden wood worker who has to lug all my kit down from a first story flat!

Welcome to the "PATH".  This might only be a hobby for you but you are using tools to invest in and improve your situation.

Have fun!

Peter

Only the names change .. the story remains the same [big grin]

After year two I thought I'd probably purchased the vast majority of the Festool gear I'd ever want ... that was a delusion!

There's nothing wrong with being a back garden woodworker .. having your tools well organised and easy to move makes it viable.

"Where is Peter Rabbit?"
"He is at the Festool Dealers down that Rabbit Hole."
[size=24pt]"NOT AGAIN!!"

Quite a few FOG members are starting to realise that Festool is simply a gateway drug to Felder/Hammer.

There is NO HOPE [crying]

I too, my festool-green brother, am in IT and I've been hooked on woodworking as a method to create something concrete outside of the office.  The green cool aide is an addicting one - my first sip was one calendar ago and was a Domino and CT26.  Since that first day, my wallet has taken alternating blows from the lumber supply and festool dealer and the wife has never been so supportive of my tool addiction.

My year of wisdom - finding comfort in systainer organization will lead to a very expensive, yet convenient, paradigm shift.  Thinking you can sell non-festool to fund festool is a silly thought, let it pass.  Buying Festool used is a neat idea but that idea is likely better served with other tool lines.  Once you add a domino to your arsenal you'll begin to wonder how to use it on materials other than wood and, at one point while assembling something you ponder why they didn't call the system Lego's.  While laying on the floor trying to use a micro-screwdriver to sink a pocket screw your missed you'll understand why a festool drill with right angle attachment may just make financial sense after all.

And last, but not least importantly, the wife now knows which tools are worth money by color coding so the marriage HAS TO WORK therefor Festool purchases are good for a marriage.

Just wait till you get to use Mafell.. [wink]

I like to think if it as a journey.
I am still headed down.
The green stuff makes a lot of sense,
Then, depending on the project some of the red stuff starts to find its way into the equipment racks.

I have convinced myself that model codes including Z5ec and ZSX400 mean I am nearing the end of the path.

Provided you enjoy the tools you use, and they may your life easier / more productive then carry on with the journey  [big grin]
