Is this Too Many Colors?

I remember seeing a photo of Kevin's van and thinking, "." To that end I've picked up odd color Sys whenever I can find them at a reasonable price. There was a guy on Craigslist with a huge collection of Black Systainers. Tragically he lived too far away. I've tried organizing schemes but currently they're a jumble. With only a few dozen, the different colors, and a sticker or four I haven't had much trouble remember what's in which.

My beef with open shelving in the kitchen is that it would require that I put things away “just so” to keep it looking good. All my shelves are hidden behind doors in cabinets.

So my solution for the multi-hued Systainers: Doors.

Reminds me after my oldest son stole :) my 21" belt sander I really wanted a Makita 9403 4x24 sander. Found a NIB for a great price and bought some belts so I needed a case to store them. I found a perfect size case at Menards. Was not expensive but is their ugly green. It sits on the bottom shelf. BTW - it doesn't get a lot of use but I love this beast.

i like the color coding. i know the yellow ones are going to be sanders only. the festool white ones are getting sorted by size in my mind, ie. the tall ones are track saw or planer, etc. the black are my custom garbage so no power tools. red is just for first aid, if i had blue i'd task it to some tools i need often.
that way you build an inventory in your mind without any reading of labels required. i might just add some large color stickers now to all the white ones

guess this all depends how far you look at your boxes before you walk to them, and if they are always returned to the same spot or not

I like the color-coding thing myself. I have a few different ones already, but will eventually get with the Systainer Store for some more. What I really dislike is the monoblock look. The all Anthracite is especially bad IMHO. The handle and latch need to contrast in some way.
My alternate colors came from the tool brands inside them, Shaper black, TSO blue, Woodpeckers anthracite, and the dark blue from Limited edition Festool. I used to have a Fein orange, from a Multi-master, but for whatever reason, you can't but it that way anymore.

BTW, I like the yellow with black parts, for the DeWalt stuff.

I do use coloured systainers for a few groups of tools, but only Festool and TSO have their own colour. With TSO that wasn't even a deliberate choice. It just started that way and once I started that route I just kept picking blue for them (if I am not mistaken there are 4 now). I do have yellow systainers for measuring devices and orange systainers for router bits. My Sundström full face mask and its accessories came in 2 sapphire systainers. All the rest is in anthracite, because I can regularly get those with very good discounts. There might come a time when green will be added. Not that I will buy them though. A friend of mine gets his Spax screws in green systainers (lots of them!) and he is thinking of retiring. He already told me I will get his collection of green systainers when he does.

Outside of the shop I have 2 customized M 237 systainers (red with yellow handles and latches) for the emergency kit.

Is it Red and Yellow because First Aid kits in Europe are different (in the US we use red and white)? Just ordered an M237 for the same purpose (in red and white) as well. The Systainer Store offers a dressed First Aid Kit in red and white but only in an M112 size - which I think is too small for a proper kit with tourniquets and other items.

Agreed. I got a M187 in red and white that I purposed for my shop First Aid box. Also made up another kit for my work truck using a Mini systainer T-Loc III.

Officially first aid kits here are orange/green. Like this:

I didn't want any confusion for my emergency kit. That's why I picked red/yellow.

But maybe I created another form of some confusion by my choice of words? By emergency kit I meant stuff you want to take with you in case of evacuation. During the last few years people in Europe have become more aware of the possibility something might happen that might drive you from your home. Governments are actively recommending people to have stuff at home in case energy and communication services fail for more than just a few hours or in case you need to evacuate. This kit is not the same as a first aid kit. That's why I wanted different colours.

That was/is an odd question to ask here.
You should ask your wife (or mistress).
Or even your sister or daughter.
Do NOT ask your Mom.
HTH

Now, I'm curious. What kinds of items does the government recommend for these Emergency Kits? Might be something to consider for use here.

My guy was near Seattle. These appeared to be spare Shaper Sys and a number of the black special edition ets 125 Sys. He had near a dozen altogether. (Weirdly, black is the only color Sys I've had break on me.) But I still would've bought a couple off him.

I tried to find some English-language pages on the subject detailing what the governments over here recommend on personal preparedness for contingencies.

Here's the Swedish government contingencies page:

A link to a PDF they offer:

And here's the equivalent Norwegian page:

A few years ago you wouldn't have heard a peep about this, at least outside of Sweden, Finland and the Baltic states. There never has been a serious "prepper" movement around here like you see in some places in the US. But now it has become something that is getting a lot of attention. Mostly because of the war in Ukraine, but also because people have become more aware of how easily things can get disrupted by abnormal weather events or hacks/accidents in cyberspace.

Gotcha. This guy must’ve had over 75 at least. 3 full storage units around 61st and 2nd. Some FT tools but majority was hard to find Euro car/motorcyle parts. He was moving out of the city to Conn. and needed to liquidate as much as possible. They were all professionally sprayed with satin auto paint he said.

Woah, he must have paid a good amount for that spray!

Awhile back, there was a guy in the Philly area selling a CT MIDI I and one of the sanders. He had painted both the CT and the Systainer with black paint and left the green latches. The paint job wasn't that great but it looked cool. Especially the CT - it looked like it should be running around the Death Star.

Here's the Swedish government contingencies page:
Thanks, I'll check it out!
