It's a sad day

For many years I have been able to enjoy making money with my hobby. Being semi retired for the last 10 years, it is now time to get back to the workforce with a steady paycheck. My wife has decided to retire from her career and has given me marching orders to find a full time job.
It's not something that I was looking forward to do, but I'm actually taking inventory of my workshop tools to see what I will need to sell. There are a lot of Festools that I will sell, but deciding which ones is proving to be difficult.

Anyway, stay tune to the Classified section as I probably will be posting in the very near future.

I'm very sorry to hear you will have to turn your life around!

Although I'm sure you have thought about it plenty and I'm in no position to give you any advice, I would still like to suggest that you make an in depth analysis if you really need to sell any tools at this point.

My thoughts are that the tools you have don't cost you anything right now and what you have is yours, you can use them whenever you need to use them. I would not sell them, they're not getting cheaper and if you have to re-buy them in future, who knows at what prices - especially if you need one like "right now".

Agree with Oliver, unless you absolutely need the capital from selling them, then maybe let the dust settle and not sell them as a knee jerk reaction.

None of our business as to whether you actually need to sell tools or not. However I would say only sell those tools which you haven't used for a long time, if any at all. It's too expensive and sometimes impossible to replace tools even if you use them rarely. Different story if you don't use them at all.

It sounds like the wife has had a large cash value for the last ten years & she got fed up and changed things. That sounds like a great lady to me.

A divorce almost 10 years ago is what trigger me to have to either sell or mothball most of my tools. That was indeed a shitty day. Because of that up until almost a year ago I did not have either the space or the financial ability to do much of anything but store what I had. Luckily now I am in a position to once again have a generous workshop space and the means to take advantage of it. I always knew that someday I would be able to get back into it again and that hope really helped. Just remember that tools are just tools. There will be more in the future.
