Just attended an in-store demo hosted by Jess Crow at the local Rockler on Saturday the 9th. It was well worth the time spent. She's a great demonstrator as she can talk, interact with the audience and demo at the same time...something I fall far short of.  [eek]

She offered interesting techniques and even though I've worked with epoxy resin before, she offered several talking points that were new to me. If you've worked with epoxy before it will not be an earth shattering "come to Jesus moment" but she offers techniques to finesse the epoxy that just makes sense. It was 2 hours well spent.

She also designed a 25' long table that she needed to purchase a Shaper Origin to carve the Kuskokwim River profile into the table and she said that the Shaper didn't have enough memory to address that length of cut. So she worked with Shaper and they gave her some additional memory capacity. Don't know what that means...but it is interesting.

If you're interested, keep tabs on the local Rockler events...there's a sponsor there somewhere. Rockler or Total Boat or both?

Here's a photo of the 25' Kuskokwim River birch conference table. After she received the commission, she was given a change order and was then flown 4 hours away to the Kuskokwim river to bring back some sand & rocks from the river to be placed in the table.

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] That is some really nice work.  Thanks for sharing.

I have had a Shaper Origin on my list for a while.  I have waited to see if they migrate to a "Festool like" three year warranty with the acquisition by TTS and somewhat waiting for a new version.  Not sure either will happen soon so might just make it the first purchase of 2020.

Thanks again for sharing.

Ya, it was a fun and interesting demonstration. I've worked with epoxy before but never thought about dipping my fingers in it.  [eek]  She just put on gloves and used her fingers to move the stuff around especially for the coloring aspects.

Because I had little luck with a heat gun, I've always used a torch to remove bubbles. Well Jess used a heat gun on max to remove bubbles AND move the epoxy around.

I learned a lot...time well spent. [smile]

I purchased a Shaper last Christmas...I just need to figure out the vector stuff. [crying]

Today on Festool Friday, Sedge just announced that Festool Shop Talk Episode 15 will be available this coming Tuesday. It will be with Jess Crow from Crow Creek Designs...here are a few examples of what she does.

I missed Festool Friday today, but a while back I was watching Jess Crow on Instagram.  Quite a back-story on her and obstacles she has had to overcome as well as deal with real time.  Beyond that, she does some absolutely fabulous work.

Should be a great episode!

Jess Crow was at both the Chattanooga and Nashville Woodcraft stores last year, but unfortunately I missed it......she should be back in October.....fantastic work methods and to relate this to Festool, I understand she uses the Festool mixer on her epoxy which makes sense. Cool stuff.

I just noticed that Jess Crow has a real slick resin calculator on her website. Just input the length, width and epoxy depth and the amount of ounces or gallons of epoxy needed will pop up.

There's also a calculator option for round objects

Festool Shop Talk Episode 15 posted this morning:

Thanks for posting the episode...🙏🙏🙏...it was a pretty interesting interview.

Why is it that Festool always seems to have video & audio issues with their productions? There actually seemed to be fewer issues on Jess's side than on Sedge's side.  [crying]

Cheese-I have to agree with you.  It is obvious she is the type of person if she hits a problem, she figures out the answer and does not repeat it.

I saw the interview. It was about one of the 2 I sat and watched the entire interview. She seems like a real nice lady and a talented craftsman.
First time I noticed Sedge didnt totally screw the interview up with his nonsense and really let her talk.
