Jointers

Hey Ron I was just joking on that Oliver. I do not have the room or power to run something like that.

I ended up stripping it all apart, replacing every bearing and cleaning it best I could. So while I'm capable of tackling a neglected jointer I don't think I want to unless the deal is too good to pass up.

Matt
As someone who often rebuilt motorcycle engines I can say rebuilding a jointer is about 1/30th the amount of work. I do get if the deal is too good to pass up, which is what the Powermatic I got was. Might just take a little while on CL, FB, and Ebay, along with Gov auctions.

I should have bought the Dual Drum Sander. Sold this morning after them having 13 months.

I agree a 6" jointer is a teaser machine. I would have bought an 8" if I had the room to fit it. My shop is stuffed now and that's after I sold off a few things in the past 6 months (16" DP, 16x44 lathe, PM mortising machine, and some other stuff). Every other month I am tempted to sell the RAS but I'll never get more than $100 for it and it's worth more than that to me so I keep it.

I need a 10x16 shed I can stuff all my wood in then I could make loads of room.

I recently got Ridgid 6" from craigslist for $300.  I posted few pics here about my cleanup.  Had to drive from NJ to PA but it wasn't bad.  It cleaned up nicely and I upgraded to sheartak head.  Works great.  So for $600 all in its pretty decent setup.  It did take a while to find one.  Tomorrow I'm going to go look at Kity 637 model someone posted not too far.  its a 10" combo model, looks pretty interesting.  Not much info on it.  Only possible issue is that its cast aluminum table instead of cast iron, but asking price is not too bad

Thank you. Found the video as well. He also upgraded his 636 to shelix which is nice. I’ll go check it out tomorrow and probably buy it . Seems to be in great condition.

[member=71889]festal[/member] I'd probably bite on a Ridgid if I saw it in the condition of yours for $300. Jointers are pretty simple machines I just would prefer one with a cabinet and as small of a footprint as possible with a built in mobile base like the Jet offers. Plenty of people satisfied with that Ridgid and if I had to buy one new that's probably the one I'd go for as it isn't crazy expensive.

[member=65062]DynaGlide[/member] , are you still looking? Here's an 8" in SE PA and another 8 incher (Delta Dj20) in Philly.

[member=65062]DynaGlide[/member] What the heck happened to the stator on that poor motorcycle? It looks like someone threw it in a river to put that fire out!?

And left it there until I took it over.

Well....#$&#. Missed a Bridge wood 8 inch in great shape for 450. He said he'd hold it until Friday but you know how that goes. Someone showed up and cleaned him out.

Offer hold deposit. Then it makes it serious. As a seller, I had so many people promise to pick it up in few days and flake out so deposit definitely helps

I don't think this guy would've mattered. He just wanted stuff gone.

Ah ye. I noticed this too. If an awesome deal comes along, you have to jump on it asap.  Friend of mine picked up 12” laguna combo from 2013 for $1500 recently and deposit worked. Seller held it for a week

I think I'd be looking at old iron. More bang for your buck.

This.

I’m in the UK - 3 years ago, I chanced upon a Wadkin BER2 spindle moulder dating from 1973, complete with a fully-rebuilt shaft and new bearings all to comply with modern safety standards, plus a recently-rewound motor. It had come out of a small commercial backstreet joinery shop who had won a big supply contract and had upgraded to CNC. It cost me £300 (they just wanted rid of it) and it still works as well as the day it was built. The whole thing’s one massive lump of iron, the weight is insane. Needed a flatbed truck with an onboard crane and a forklift to move it.
