Okay, well I've finally found the cable for my camera, but first a drawing of the layout, with the basic dimensions:

[attachthumb=1]

The cupboard to the top left-hand corner is my systainer storage cupboard, detailed in one of my previous threads, and seen here on the right:

The workbench is a steel-framed one with chipboard panels which I found on eBay. It is 6'x2'x3'. The chipboard top will be replaced with an 18mm MDF top, drilled with a matrix of 20mm holes like the MFT.

At the other side is an old wardrobe used for storage, and my Kapex on the mobile base I built for it (again, there's another thread for this somewhere). This can be easily moved out towards the centre of the room for longer pieces:

Then, to the right of this is the door to the old coal cellar that runs under the front yard (this has a low ceiling and is very damp, and will be blocked up & infilled at some point) and then the utility area, which extends under the window:

This will be re-located into the separate utility room eventually, which is the door imediately to the right of the Kapex.

It's all very basic at the moment, but I will be adding more to it as time goes on.

Great looking layout. But how do you get your big case pieces out of the basement? Do you have to design things to make it up the stairs and around the corner? I'm thinking of people who built boats and cars in their basements, and had to dismantle the house to get them outside!

No - there's a door to the outside (shown bottom left in the drawing). Outside, there are stone steps leading up into the yard. Out of the door there's a sharp 90 degree left turn, then 4 steps, then a right turn & the rest of the steps:

This makes things more difficult, so I'm planning to re-build them straight:

I recently made a new cabinet for the living room - the 8'x4' sheets went down the steps and in the door (just about - it was a bit of a ball-ache as I had no one to help me, so had to struggle with them on my own >:( ). The cabinet, when assembled, is about 5'x3'x2', and with a friend helping was relatively easy to get out, up the steps, and back in the front door. Having the better, straighter access will help tremendously!

And look danged pretty, too. I like the arrangement. Should be a nice view from the street. Maybe a gate on the stairs?

JRB, what a great layout and when you are done it is going to really be wonderful.  :) However, you just had to get one last NAINA Kapex jab in now didn't you? ;D :D ;) :o Fred

Fred,

Just because JRB included the Kapex IN EVERY SINGLE PIC, that means nothing!  NOTHING, I say!!!  I think you're reading something into his pics that's just not there.  Being the kind, gentile sort, JRB would NEVER do something like that!  8)

Regards,

Dan.

p.s. YES, I did notice that his camera angles were a bit Kapex-centric.  ::)

Honestly, that wasn't intentional - I didn't realise it was every one!

I'll see if I can take some more pics without it in if that will make you feel better :P

Nice shop Jonny.  ;D

Why do stairs always seem to be the problem? Mine doesn't have any right now.

JRB, that would be so sweet of you but just a tad late to post pics without the Kapex don't ya think??? ;D ;) 8) Fred
