Hi guys,

Just thought id drop a shout that i finally got my hands on the C15...Not in my hands at home though just at my dealer. I must say this thing is a work of art compared to the CDD12FX that im using now. And light to......When i do get my FOGtainers I know for sure what i want to put in it now  [thumbs up]

Would have been nice to take some pics of it but my phone battery was dead as usual.

Wayne, I had a chance to use both the new C12 and C15 drills at the Festool cabinet class, very nice.  I really liked the C12.

Oh yea, I have the C12 and it has blown me away with its size and power. I can't remember using my Makita electric drill since I brought this C12 orphan home to daddy  [big grin]

Buy it, buy it, buy it Wayne. I've got ten bucks I can give you towards it!  [scratch chin] LOL

This it truly one buy you will never regret.

Brice,

Hi.  Just curious...  Why the C12?  Isn't it about the same size and weight as the C15?

Thanks,

Dan.

Thanks for the cash advance [big grin] now i just need all the other members to have your " spirit " lol Im pretty sure every one is broke now after the FOGtainer feast, over 250 !!!!! 300 anyone ??

I think after i have made my final payment on the jet 22 44 occilating drum sander and put some cash away for christmas time, I will be getting the C15. Man i cant get over the thing...just beautiful...

I tried the C15 at a local dealer this morning on my way to job, and indeed it feels nice in the hands, and I mostly like the clips that's very tight. Fixed with two screws underneath. It may be a different plasticpart, so we cannot swap them. I would like to get my hands on a T18+3 though. I also would like to see the new little baby model in real life, but I prefer one compact light machine for all, and the Centrotec bits. That's after all why I bought the TDK12 and later the T15+3. But oney quickly get's spoiled over Festool nice stuff. Now if only Santa remembers my wishlist (long).

Cheers,
Jacques.

No there is a difference in weight between the new C12-Li (1,3 kg) and C15-Li (1,6 kg).
And that's because of the smaller battery of the C12 (BPS Li-1,3 Ah).
The C15 has the BPS Li-2,6 Ah.

It's the same as with the older C12 with Nicd and NiMh batteries.
They also both came as compact (C) and standard (S) version.
BPS 12 C NiCd-1,3 Ah
BPS 12 S NiCd-2,4 Ah
BPS 12 C NiMh-2,0 Ah
BPS 12 S NiMh-3,0 Ah

In the USA we are still waiting for a release date?

If the Festool HQ in Indiana has them, does that mean they are ready for the 120volts use here in the states?

Wayne, i have the C15 & it performs better than it looks.  Just do it, you know its gona happen sooner or later  [poke]

I can take some pics of it if anyone wants but everyone prob seen it on the various web sites.

Woodguy.

Was able to check them out recently at Festool HQ in Indiana.  Felt wonderfully balanced and super light.  Sleek as could be, can't wait for'em

Dan, the C12 is a little bit smaller and lighter, because as neeleman posted of the smaller 1.3 Ah battery.  I think part of my attraction to the C12 was the fact that I already have a couple of T15s (that and I have a problem with collecting drills, it's a sickness really [laughing]).

Jacques, I looked very closely at the clip and it didn't look like it would work with the T series drills.  There is a plastic clip molded into the battery (no screws) that holds the clip on.

When the C12/C15 hits the bricks, I'll be buyin' one of the two.  I like the idea of the lighter drill and I use a Makita impact driver for most screws.  That said, I keep wondering if I'd need the extra torque occasionally for a big drill bit.  Decisions, decisions...

Thanks,

Dan.

I was in the same quandary when the t + 3's came out.  I was lucky to have a dealer allow me to play with both on one of my jobs.  I cut 2 1/2 - 3" holes in 1/2" and 3/4" ply, also a bunch of 5/8" holes with a spade bit in the same cabinet backs.  There was a noticeable difference between the 12 and 15.  Where the 12 would tend to bog down a bit on the tougher holes, the 15 powered right through.  I imagine that it would be the same with the new C drills.

I shared my thoughts with a coworker the other day, and the best way I could equate it was like this:  V8 vs. 6.  Both have plenty of power 95% of the time, but occasionally one needs the extra cylinders.  I went with the 15, and I'm already in line for the new C-15.

Dan

Brice,

The C12 battery will work in the C15 won't it?  So it might be better to get the C15 kit because the batteries will work with your T15 and then if you want a lighter/smaller battery for occasional use, just pickup a 12v 1.3ah battery.

Chris...

I doubt the 12v battery would work in the 15v drills.  Anyone know for sure one way or another.

I have a protool 18V drill for about 2 years now; allthough the batteries look different (they are slightly bulkier and have some protective rubber around the bottom edge) the contacts are compatible with the festool drills.
When I bought the protool duradrive drywall collated screwdriver I tried the 12V batteries in the 18V drill and they worked BUT at a much lower rpm. (I also tried to slide an 18V battery on the 10.8V machine, but (as to be expected) it wouldn't fit.
So the batteries of the new C12 will work with the T15 but it will make it run at a lower speed.

Sidenote: There's a thread on a German powertoolforum about a guy that was complaining that his T15 drill didn't reach the rated max rpm, and the conclusion was that those numbers were only reached with the NiMH 15.6 batteries (which are also compatible with the T15, but not with the Li Ion batteries that come with the drill)

A little over a month ago I had a problem with my protool drill which required a warranty repair. Allthough I can choose from a small arsenal of backup drills, I really missed the centrotec and the angled chuck. (I do also have a bosch I-driver, but I really don't like it). When the new C drills were announced I decided I would check them out as soon as they would be available.

Allthough all of the dealers I frequently visit had the carvex and the small rotex in stock soon after their release, only one could show a few of the new C-drills. I decided to get the C12, because it was significantly lighter than the protool drill, and, if the 1.3Ah would turn out to be insufficient I could also use the 2.6 Ah protool batteries in it.

Sofar I really like it, the 1.3Ah batteries are a lot lighter, and I don't mind putting them on the charger every once in a while (the charging also takes less time). I like the belt-clip, it is shorter than the clips on other brand drills, with the tip a bit angled out, I actually put it on my belt, while I hook the other drills to a pocket. (By belt I mean the belt that holds my pants up, I don't wear a toolbelt).
The led light works fine too, it's a lot brighter than the ledlight of the makita drills and it's placed at an angle. It sometimes casts weird shadows, depending on which chuck/bit is used, but the tip is well enough illuminated. (It doesn't stay on after you let go of the trigger, but the trigger has a short free-stroke so you can use the light without turning the drill)
Before I ordered it (they didn't have the set-version of it in stock) I checked with someone who recently got the C15 if it had the R?hm type keyless chuck, which it has. (The chuck on the C12 is actually a bit heavier than the one on my protool drill.)
The right-angle chuck is lighter than the protool version, and easier to adjust. The excentre chuck has come in very handy.
