Funny isn't it ... in all reality the FOG is morphing into the de facto "Premium Woodworking Tools Forum".

Really I think it is a benefit, as people that gravitate towards Festool probably also gravitate to other brands which provide use like Mirka, Lamello, etc.

And if one is trying to compare and contrast high end tools they have to do that somewhere.

Lastly there are a lot of people here that do some nice work... like today's Audio thread. So you get some neat insight into design ideas. That benefits myself, and probably others... So there are also some aspects of "Premium Woodworking" to add to the premium tools.

ToolNut is probably wise to carry more than 1 set of premium tool, and it flows over from Festool through KnewConcepts, WoodPeckers, etc. So they are moving into a niche of "Premium Woodworking Tools Supplier", which somewhat mirrors the forum's population/demographic trends.

The Duo-Dowel Joiner is where it is at for joining and for shelf-pin holes. I've moved over to Mafell's tracksaw, jigsaw, and joiner. Toolnut has a limited stock now, so take a look at the Mafell site to see the crazy tools they have come up with. The dado cutting saw (MF26-cc) is an outstanding idea.

Not sure how service/warranty will work at Toolnut though. Timberwolf cuts the warranty period from 3 years to 1 year. I've never had problems so I have not been affected. A little competition for Timberwolf will be good.

Call me crazy but I do not believe this hurts Festool at all. Mafell is even more expensive, but more importantly, their presence is another example of high value products in the marketplace. Festool is often described as an anomaly, a company that over-estimates the value of their products versus the commodity offerings so widely available. It is more difficult to disparage a premium car brand when there are a half-dozen of them as opposed to only one.

100% agree. We welcome the competition. Furthermore, if another company is encouraging craftsmen to consider investing in high quality, premium tools, that's ultimately a good thing for us.

Now having said that ... buy Festool and buy often!  [wink]

I wonder if the folks at Mafell ever plan to introduce imperial sized bits for the dowel joiner. It might make the machine more palatable for North American customers. I have not seen any third party imperial sized bits though they may exist.

And yes, the FOG has been one of the Premium Woodworking Sites for some time, however there could be more on design.

Tyler, spare parts are available in the states.  Not hard to get whatsoever (few days) and we'll stock'em soon enough once we identify high wear components, etc.  Our understanding from current Mafell customer's and Timberwolf's experience is that minimal, if any tools, experience issues even well after the warranty period.  And yes, just as there is support for warranty repair, there are repair services available once the tools are out of warranty... but again this seems to be quite a rarity.

The Timberwolf site is new, and a huge improvement over the old.  They also started free shipping on the more common tools and related accessory orders over $100.00 (probably to match Tool nut free shipping).

If it is true that Tool Nut has stopped selling Mafell products, I wonder if they will have a clearance sale, or simply return their inventory to Timberwolf, who I think supplied their product to them.

The next question is, if Tool Nut is no longer a Mafell retailer, will Timberwolf continue their free shipping policy on the tools that had also been sold by Tool Nut?

Stay tuned for these and many other answers as to why Tool Nut has dropped Mafell, if they even have.  After all, it might just be an oversight and Mafell products might pop back up tomorrow.......

I never understood the whole thing
To be able to sell only a few tools and if you wanted
an other tool than you had to go back to the company
Who didn’t want me as a costumer
Mafell quality is unquestionable their distribution company is  .....
Tool nut is on an other level of costumer service
That they couldn’t make it work is just not a surprise me
To bad it would have been nice to have a Mafell distributor near by

Mafell is a great company with fantastic tools but I do not understand the Erika!!!!!
I am sure it is a great saw but looking at the dimensions and what it does, why not hammer k3 winner 800mm which is cost the same?
