I have cut stock that thick or thicker , but not that wide (8"?), so the video was reassuring for me, but the sound suggested the load on the motor was close to what it could handle. Anyone seen videos showing Kapex used for cutting thicker and wider hardwood than this one?

Frankly I wouldn’t make that cut that way.  I would have made 2 or 3 passes. Sparks coming from possibly dirt in the bark don’t bother me.

I’ve encountered sparks a lot of times...especially when cutting cedar. It was always weird but just more an observation than anything else.

I’ve also noted that running cedar through a planer sometimes scores the knives. Again just an observation and a befuddlement on my part.

Good point. I use multiple passes on the table saw for really thick stock, but it did not cross my mind that I should do the same on the Kapex.

I'm concerned to learn what butter is like in Canada.  I don't think that saw was exactly happy about the task at hand.

A new low in expectations...I cut one thick hardwood board with my $1500 SCMS and it did not self destruct!  Perhaps this is the germ of a new advertising campaign?

I'll clarify...if you don't have confidence in the tool to make the cut then don't buy it. I have two Kapex's that are 10+ years old. One failed a few weeks ago and the other is going strong. I know others have had shorter lives, but I never gave any consideration to the type of wood or cut or power source (in shop and out of shop). I've never bought power as a factor as they are universal motors with a  range of power being acceptable.

I think with all of the complaints about the Kapex, the OP just thought it was time for a little fun. Even tho he has replied to some of the replies to his original post, I think he is having a good time. Maybe not full blown laughing, but now and then maybe a smile and/or chuckle.
