I just received the base extensions(Thanks Uncle Bob) and am using them with the MFT3. Is there a good way other than a long straight edge and an a good eyeball , to get the legs aligned with the saw and to stay put? I have cranked them down to the saw as much as I dare, but they still seem to wonder a bit. Im cutting 16' trim and want to make sure the cuts are at 90s.

This is the first use of the Kapex to cut a bunch of wood, and I'm lovin this saw. I was able to cut about 300 feet and could put the resulting dust in half a little dice cup. [big grin] [big grin]

If I understand you correctly, you are talking about the UG extension wings?

If that's correct, there is a stamped, shiny piece of thick sheet metal underneath. It extends under the V-groove to clamp the extensions from below to the groove.

It's not totally intuitive how to make it work...

You have to loosen the black thumbscrew enough so that you can push that shiny piece all of the way toward the center of the saw that is possible. If you get it right, you are pretty much at the end of the travel of the groove in the shiny part. At this point, it has engaged a thicker part of the casting on the saw and will lock in dead solid.

If it isn't super solid, you haven't engaged it correctly.

It might take a few times looking up at it from underneath to fully fathom what I just stated. It's worth a respite on your back if it isn't obvious...

If the connection is not this solid they are not attached properly. When connecting to the MFT the clamp rail gets in the way of the thumb bolt. As Tom stated you have to make sure the thumb bolt is loose enough to allow the retaining bar to slide under the vee groove, then tighten the thumb bolt.

I ended up taking the RAS to the thumb bolts and reshaping them to allow me to make up the connection a little easier.

Thanks tjbnwi. Theres a fine line between loosening enough and chasing the spring all over the shop floor [sad]
