Does anyone know where the carbon brushes are on the Kapex KS120?  I was using my kapex today and notice a lot more sparks in the motor housing than normal as well as an strange noise as well. Its cutting fine, speed seems to be fine just the weird noise and extra sparks has me concerned as I'm one a huge hotel fitout here in Chiswick in London and its the only chopsaw here on site.

I'm just hope that its the carbon brushes are near their end. I just want to find out where they are so I can check them and order new ones if they are.

Thanks in advance.

Well bad news  [sad] My Kapex died completely this afternoon on me. I rang service and once again getting tremendous customer service from Festool. They are sending me out a loaner Kapex tomorrow and collecting mine for repair at the same time at no cost to me at all.

Excellent help out from them again in my hour of need.

I nearly posted yesterday (jokingly) that nobody has ever changed the brushes in a kapex because the motor burns out before the brushes wear out!

How old is your Kapex?

Doug

Does anyone think it's time for Festool to address this issue now. Miter saws burning out within 3 years of use ? Just bizarre.

Might be a substantial majority of them out there that haven't burnt out but there shouldn't be any.
Guess they're addressing it with warranty repairs and tracking actual Festool problems for future mitigation.

Mine's five years old, guess I'm safe

At one time a post about a kapex burning up would have got a lot of interest, now it's so common nobody is bothered. Of course you got good customer service, festool are embarrassed about another £1k saw failing early. Come on Festool sort it out.

Well everyone just thought I'd update ye all. I got my saw returned to me in full working order again. The list that was fixed is as follows

End shield,
Stop,
Table top insert,
Label,
Brush holder with brushes,
Swivel Lever,
Cheese head screw,
Hexagon nut.

No motor blown or that. They went beyond fixing the brushes and fixed other stuff that I didn't even realise was wrong with it.

Again I have commend Festool on excellent customer service. My saw was collected last Friday and I recieved it back today. What other tool brand would have your tool fixed that quickly and give you a loan tool as well while yours is getting fixed as well??

Good to hear it's sorted and wasn't anything serious and good to hear festool uk came up trumps.

That's one unlucky saw John !

Only just read this thread and I remember only the week before that you needed the bevel lock handle fixed . Then this happened. Good its all sorted though
