Seriously, I'm having a devil of a time trying to justify the Kapex. I do mostly small stuff. The main attraction is the ability to do miters and bevels without having to make jigs. Not sure how well the Kapex would do on small box cuts.
That is the wonderful part of the 30 day return policy. You can prepare your stock, made prototypes, etc., and get ready and then you can put your Kapex thru the paces and procedures that matter to YOU.

The genius of the 30 day policy is you WON'T return it after you try it out..Genius for Festool anyway.
OP-you have to do what is right for you. I struggled with this and decided to stretch myself a little. Yes, it's hard to justify the price for me too, since I do mainly DIY/Homeowner (on an advanced level) projects. And I can't honestly tell you here and in my view, even while owning the Kapex, it's not worth the price they charge-honestly. Problem as I see it with the Kapex is there isn't ANY real competition to it. Once there is, maybe the price will come down, maybe. I am not holding out for it based on what I saw when I tried just about EVERY miter saw on the market.
Here is what I can can say though about the saw itself, removing price from the argument.. It's the best saw I have EVER used, cased closed. I will NOT be returning it I don't care how much it stings to pay for it. When I initially decided to purchase it, I figured I would just "try" it for 30 days, so I threw it on a credit card, and tried to be as non-committal as I could..Well that was a mistake, because once you use it you will look at all the other saws differently-they're all basically crap by comparison. It has made everything I am doing right now make that much more sense; from the angle finder, to the lasers that truly work, to the soft start, to (and probably most important aspect) the way it bevels. I repeat, the way it bevels is simply incredible. Oh yeah, and I haven't even mentioned the dust collection.
Is the saw perfect? It's important to level set, cause some folks think they can spend their way into perfection. So the answer is, absolultey not..It blows more dust to the miter gauge than any saw I have used, and the static of the (poorly thought out) plastic miter dial causes the dust to stick to it. I am constantly blowing it off. But this is minor overall, and totally overshadowed by what it does so well. Is the saw worth the money? Generally speaking, most people (including me and I own it) would say HECK NO. But as I said, this is subjective for people...I would emphasize this point though, and don't let anyone tell you different. It's not a $1350 saw, it's easily a $2000 saw, unless you don't care about dust collection. And if you want a stand, consider it a $3000 saw. But yes, I bought it, stretched to get it, not returning it and couldn't be happier with it. But you have to do what works best for you..I will tell you, if you find a way to make it work, the saw will change alot of how you work and look at miter saws and execution of your work. It's the best miter saw made.
