I am trying to make a small box with a lid that has a 45% sloped sides ending with a flat top. It will look like the base of a pyramid with most of the top lopped off..

I used the compound angle calculator and came up with a 30 degree right tilt and a 35.3 degree right azimuth. I get a perfect result on the test pieces.

My question is if I made a jig that held the lid pieces at a 45 degree angle to the fence and set the azimuth angle at 45 degrees with 0 degree tilt, would I get the same results? I think it would be like leaning a piece of crown molding against the fence. If such a jig worked, it would be safer for me to cut small pieces.

Anyone made a jig like this?

I answered my own question by building such a jig. It holds the pieces I want to compound miter up against the fence at a 45 degree slant angle. The jig is built to attach to either the left or right fence. The azimuth is set at plus and minus 45 degrees.

The resulting pieces fit perfectly to form a right angle with a slant angle of 45 degrees.

Sound like you should post some pictures.  I get what your doing but it would be more beneficial with images.

Besides who wants to have a conversation alone;)
