Kapex crown stops

Looking at doing several rooms with crown molding. Not sure wether to get the Festool crown stop with base extension or just get an aftermarket jig.  Anyone have experience with either one and possible recommendations?

I'd recommend clamping a straight piece of wood and using that instead of the crown stops.  See around 4:00 below:

 
Check out multiblades.com ...they have an attachment with a track. That's my recommendation unless you positively absolutely without a doubt must have a Festool accessory. Plus it can be used with the UG extensions.
 
Absolutely don't have to have a Festool product for this. I checked out the Multiblade site and the Kapex Sawhelper looks like it would do just what I'm looking for. Anyone have first hand experience with them?

Like the idea of 1 board that spans the saw table for the crown stop. I will go that route too! Thanks
 
I have a pair setup on my UG extensions. I posted this recently on another thread. This is an awesome crown solution for me as I install a lot of crown.

You might want to consider the kapex/UG brackets from multiblades.com. I believe you can also use those with DIY extensions, but at least if you decide in the future to get the festool extensions, they are compatible.  The sawhelper extensions are somewhat hard to find.
 
I have the multiblades adapters for my sawhelper extensions. I need to order a set for my UG extensions. The knob is so much bugger and easier to use then the Festool one.

Bob, I'm loving the crown stop. Looks like you can see the miter scale. The light is cool too, do you get a bad shadow on the opposite side of the blade the lights on while it's on?

The crown stop is sweet!  This was the second one I made for the Kapex.  Eventually after different crown styles & sizes, the board gets quite chewed up.  On this version, I decided to drill a hole on the left side of the miter scale because it's really difficult to see 45 degrees.  Now I can look straight down to see any degree in the range of 45!

The light is awesome to have...when the blade is down, it does block some light on the material to the right but I wasn't cutting in the dark, so it wasn't impossible.  When I'm doing crown I usually cope my left cuts which, when cutting nested crown, puts my marks on the right side of the blade (opposite the light).  The project that I took that photo on was 37 pieces of 16' crown and I had no issues.
 
Hey Bob, I have to say thank you for recommending these a few threads ago. I wanted the crown stops but was kicked in the head when I found out the festool crowns were not compatible with the UG set. I searched the thread and saw those pics. Thanks again. I love them

Good point on the ug extensions. I didn't think that you could build your own extensions on those but after going back to the website, it looks as though you can. Makes sense to get those instead of the sawhelpers.

Spent a few hours calibrating my used Kapex today. I think it's ready to go!!
 
I'm glad I could help out!  I was really disappointed when I first got my UG extensions and couldn't cut nested crown. As soon as I found these, I jumped all over them and I was a happy boy!

Just ordered a set of these as well. Thanks for the heads up. Do you have a link to the bolts you use to hold the crown stop to the T track. Thanks.
 
The incra track uses standard 1/4 20 bolts that you can find anywhere for jig & fixtures.  I have a few different knob types but if you have a local woodcraft, they have many different styles of knobs to fit on the bolts
 
Bob, where did you get that light?  Nice and compact.  Is it battery powered or running off that transformer in the back ground?

I got that light at woodcraft. It's a wood river lighthttp://m.woodcraft.com/Catalog/ProductPage2.aspx?id=0&ProdId=39072&

It's about $50 both at woodcraft and amazon. It's both plug/aaa batteries. Only downside is you have to find a place to mount it as the base is magnetic but the Kapex is cast!  I love it though!
 
Bob, I bought the same light a couple months ago. Lee valley has a similar light. I ended up the optional mounting plate and connector which allows me to use on MFt3. Have not checked on mounting options for kapex ug yet since just got it. Definitely look at options from Lee valley

That's cool that Lee Valley sells them...I didn't even know that!  I like giving them business as they're always looking out for us too with their veritas kits for mft, etc!

As a collector of tools, I also ordered these for additional flexibility. Can't have to many options to attach  ;)
