Kapex dust collection

I have read a number of reviews and comments on how well the dust collection is on the saw.  However I do not see it as I get an awful lot of dust in and around the saw  I have it hooked to the CT mini extractor and the suction is good  ( first thing I checked )  I tried the sawstache from Fast Cap but it was a pain so I took it off    the supplied boot appears to be on correctly but you never know...I realize that 100% collection is not feasible but some of the videos I've watched the collection looks a lot better than what I'm getting...your thoughts and input will be appreciated

....which diameter hose are you using? 36mm is best.

Are you using the 27mm hose? You need a 36mm hose to get the best dust collection on a Kapex.

How are you making your cuts?  To get the best dust pickup you need to pull the saw out & make the cut while pushing the saw back.

I wasn't impressed with mine then I got a short 36mm hose and it improved the dust collection a lot.

Same here. I got a Bosch 36, cut it down and it's really quite decent now.

As already noted the 36mm hose raises the bar on dust collection.  I would also try experimenting with your technique.  A slower action, perhaps making sure that the saw is totally up to speed as well as the collector prior to cutting, waiting for dust to clear at end of cut, etc. might be things to experiment with.

My personal cutting style leaves dust at the front of the saw but I don't have the airborne float everywhere in the house dust.  I personally have a drop cloth underneath my work area to capture what I consider chips.

I am also moving this out of the tool problems area whereas this is probably not a tool problem.

Always goona have some overspray on the base of the saw no matter how great the collection is. You get somewhat 90%+ of the finer dust...after 5-20 cuts those %'s adds up and im left with alot of dust on the saw. but compare this to any other saw ive used i cant beat it.

Mine seemed to be getting worse then I noticed there was a black plastic piece at the back of the blade. I had cut right through it somehow. Replacing this helped a lot.

As someone else said make sure you pull the saw head towards you then drop it down and push back through the timber to make the cut, this fires the dust in the right direction. I also find the section of the timber has an effect, some sizes seem better then others. Dust extraction is not great when cutting miters and bevels but still collects the fine stuff that you don't want to be breathing in. 36mm hose is a must.

I think the best thing to do is to take the hose off and make a dozen or so cuts without it. Compare and contrast.

+1 for what [member=41196]Nat X[/member] said... Your eyes will be opened to a whole new appreciation!

Here's a small mod from [member=8352]erock[/member] that you can make to the Kapex:

Hope this helps, Mike A.
