I've been noticing that the Kapex head doesn't always "self-return" to the top position and that when it doesn't return the blade guard also stays in an in-between position. I don't think it used to behave like this…

Can anybody comment on what is normal and on how to troubleshoot if it is not?

It's a known problem, mine has done it in the past. It is caused by the build up of dust and resin, I can't remember exactly where but think I had to take the blade out to get to the bit that needed cleaning.

On the top of the saw is a metal arm with a roller.  I have to lubricate that area the most often.  That may help.

Yeah, occasional clean up, dust out, and light lube to moving parts brings the saw back to life.
It's usually time for maintenance when things start to not work as expected.

If I were you, I'd call our service team. They'll likely know the best fix for this. 1-888-337-8600

I had the same problem. Just lubricate the pivots and it'll pop right back up. I've only had to do it once and can't remember what lube I used.
